Question about Ovens

1 Answer

I have a kitchen aid dual fuel oven (KDRP462LSS08). It is about 3 years old. The top burners are gas, they work great. the oven is convection as well all electric. It does nothing. No broil no bake. The hi-limit thermostat is good. The two elements holm out good. It is getting a full 220 volts. Any ideas?

The one on the back is located just left of center and towards the top?, I took both wires off and connected them together and still have nothing!

Hi,

Sorry you are having trouble, one question before I jump in here, is the display reading anything or is it blank?

    Hi,

There are 2 thermal fuses the one in front will disable the control, the one in back will disable the elements. Did you check the one in back? If not I can give you instructions on how to test.

  • Philip May 09, 2010

Yes, that is the other one. If both thermal fuses have been jumped at the same time or are good then the control must have gone out. I will look that up here and get right back

    Hi,

Here is part of the wiring diagram for the elements. If the oven shut down fuse is good and you have 240 volts to the unit and both elements are good.... the only thing left in the circuit is the control board and the user interface that controls this board.

Since your user interface is working the logical component is the control. I would not recommend to someone other than a professional to make live 220 voltage checks but that is what we are down to in order to verify the theory.

Side note. Check your warranty, many of Kitchen Aid products have 5 years or more on the electronics.

My convection oven ring does not work

These tend to crack and "unzip" because they are such a tight circle... Kill the power, and meter the ring element for ohm's resistance. If the element tests ok, check the wires to the element for overheating, and if those look fine, remove the control board and look for burnt solder joints where the relays are mounted. Hello, there no such thing as a fuse to control the top burns, if your Maytag is gas or electric.
The gas goes through a regulator to keep the range gas pressure @ 2lb. Then gas goes into aluminum manifold system for the top burners where each burners has a fuel valve in the manifold. Off of this manifold is another aluminum pipe with a little adjustment valve for the setting the flame on the oven burner in the oven.

Mama, it sound really dangerous with you stacking things on top of your kitchen range. Even when the oven is on it will vent hot oven air in the back of the top of range. Are you familiar with the Fire Triangle. Fire...needs three things, fuel, air, and ignition to burn. I hate to say it, but you have all three of these component to have fire in your home. By stacking things on top of your kitchen range.

Now, just a little word of advise here. DO NOT STACK STUFF ON or NEAR your kitchen stove, heater for you home or even around light bulbs and power cords. Ms. it seems that you are a very intelligent young lady. Just remember the FIRE-TRAIANGLE----it could possibly safe your live and home. I wish you many years in your life experience through time. Kitchen Aid manuals are available from their support site: http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/product_literature/search.jsp?siteCd=KAD . The model number is needed to locate the manual. For ranges, the plaque with the model number is inside the oven door.

The KitchenAid ovens that I know will turn off when you press Off (unless the control lock is on - then you need to disable the control lock). The Warming Drawer will have a separate Off button. Dual oven units require you to select which oven and then press off.

See http://www.kitchenaid.com/assets/pdfs/product/ZUSECARE/KESS907XSP_Use%20and%20Care_EN.pdf for a similar range. (ceramic glass cooktop, convection feature and warming drawer)

I hope this helps.

You will need a new igniter module. The igniter module is told to spark by the control panel. There is also a flame detection for electronic start and that could be bad too.
