thank you I'll check them out

I checked the resistors around the board with the Ic chips. the the 6.8 ohm resistors were ALL giving me a reading of 2 ohm on my multimeter I had it set to X10 I did't take a leg out of the circuit I touched the probes to opposit sides if the resistors. do you think I shoudl change all of them?

  • gore308 Mar 28, 2008

seem like alot work to check . do you recomend a good place to start example the ones cloest to the IC chip?

  • gore308 Mar 28, 2008

also do you know the volts on these?

    thank you

  • gore308 Mar 28, 2008

    thanks again I appreicate it.

it is the 30 ohm's that are bad they only sell 33ohm in my area

    Can I use those instead?

  • gore308 Mar 29, 2008

2 15 ohm ?is that just tieing them togeather or do I have make asome type of bridge.

    thanks again

One of the resistors must be open, you cant always tell by looking if theyre open you have to remove one leg out of circuit then test them for resistance they can only be 5% out of tolerance, any more than that and they must be replaced.

you will have to remove 1 leg of the resistor out of circuit to check them so you are not getting a reading from the resistance in the circuit. Cause even a blown resistor can register resistance in circuit.

Just check the 6.8 ohm resistors next to the ICs those are the ones that will affect the convergence.

No use only a 30ohm resistor, However if you cant find a 30ohm you can use 2 15ohm and hook them together in series. or 3 10 ohms in series any combination to arrive at 30 ohm. A 33 ohm will only burn another componnent .

they have to be hooked in series to add up the values. Just hook them end to end in line like a string.

I have a panasonic PT-47wxc43 projection tv. I have green and purple halos coming up from the bottom. The screen has purple and green double images which are worse from the bottom up.

This problem is due to convergence output ICs failure and both chips will be replaced to fix the issue.
There are two big black ICs installed with aluminum heat sink on deflection board, these are convergence output ICs and will be replaced to correct the problem, it is common problem of rear projection tv.
Below image of deflection shows ICs (marked in red) that are need to be replaced.
IC number is STK392-110 and available with Part Store for $32 each.
Click above link to see an image of IC.
If you are handy with electronics stuff repair and can replace parts in tv circuit board then can replace these parts yourself or ask local tech to help you.
Hope these info will help you.
Let me know if you have additional question.

Color blur

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

60PP9352 60 in. Rear - Blue convergence issue

Replacing only the ICs MAY solve the problem, however, many people have also had blown resistors requiring replacement. Also the convergence board should be checked for cracked solder. If you replace the ICs and the resistors are shot, the ICs may blow again almost immediately, meaning you may have to do the repair twice.
You do not have to replace any transistors to fix this convergence failure.
