Question about Amana ARB2259CS Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

Open Question

Freezer cools then thaws out and cools again

I replaced the compressor relay with a new unit since it was a fairly cheap purchase and a probable fix but unfortunately no go. The freezer will freeze everything and within a 24 hour period it will thaw out everything which is strange since it's not like I open it alot. Any suggestion to a fix for the freezer. The top part of the fridge works fine.

Thank you

SOURCE: refrigerator compartment not cooling

If you are sure the fan in the freezer is running and you don't feel any air flow out of the top middle vent inside the fridge section, then the damper motor must be bad. The damper motor is behind that vent cover inside the fridge section.

Sounds like a defrost timer problem.

SOURCE: Cooling Problem with Amana Fridge/Freezer model ARS2663AC

Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.

  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.

The starting relay may be the culprit and is very inexpensive to replace. It is probably worth fixing.
After it is fixed, make sure you get the condenser fins cleaned.

I have a kenmore s x s refridge and the freezer is cool by everthing is thawing out. I hear a clicking noise so I took the back cover off and it seems to be coming from the compressor.

the clicking noise may be coming from the start and oveer load relay on the compressor shut the unit down until the compressor is cool replace the over load and start relay on the compressor.

if you have a clamp type power metercheck the current draw on the compressor it should be between 1.2-1.6 amps during a running load.

Good day,
Sounds as if the relay has failed again. ....or when relays start going bad, it could be an issue with the internal part of the compressor.
But the relay approach should be your first step.

Frigidiare upright freezer has just stopped cooling

I was hoping it would be something like a cracked door seal, or a faulty thermostat, etc., but after reading the rest of your info, I've concluded the likely cause is a slow leak in the refridgerant line(s). I've seen many of these fairly new upright freezers with this problem.

Finding the leak is easy for a service tech to find, but the cost of the service tech isn't cheap and unfortunately, the repair cost will probably exceed the cost of a new freezer, but you can try to call a repair tech and see if they can give you a rough estimate over the phone or if they think it's worth fixing, etc.

My advice is to replace it. The cost of food you've lost has probably exceeded the price of a new freezer - and you've had this happen twice now. These days it seems that some appliances are being designed and built as "throw aways" due to the high repair cost.

Wished I had some better news for you, but unless you've got all the specialty tools; (charging gauges, vaccum pump, Freon, etc.) needed to do the repair yourself, along with the technical knowledge, it's likely not worth having the repair service contracted. Best Regards.

Freezer thawed. Replaced temperature control, replaced defrost timer, replaced defrost thermostat. Compressor relay is cycling. No cooling still. Help!

Why were those parts changed? Was the compressor cycling on overload at the time?
If so, you should have first replaced the relay/overload combination and the see what happened.

Refrigerator/freezer is warm, fan is running.

The problem is the compressor isnt starting. The relay is probably ok. It should have 5yr warranty on the compressor. However if you purchase a Supco RC0810 start assist relay available at all appliance parts stores, it will start the compressor, however this is only a temp fix. But it should last till sears can put a new compressor in.
