Question about Craftsman 24 Hp 48" Deck Yard Tractor
I have a 24hp kohler and I want to know how to wire up the engine to start it. There is a red wire, purple wire, green wire, and white wire going to the motor. Someone has cut the wiring harness and I want to see if it runs.
If all you want to do is see if it runs, forget the wiring. There may - or may not - be a connection on the bottom of the carburettor. If thers is, connect it to the battery +.
Use lump leads - ground the battery '-', and connect battery + to the starter. Engine will crank. Operate choke/throttle controls as necessary.
One of the wires in question will be the engine cut-off. The others will be DC out (battery charge and clutch), DC (or AC) out for lights etc, and alternator ground.
Use a test meter to determine what's on each wire. The one with no (measurable) output will be the cut otff. Ground it to stop the engine (or pull off the plug lead).
