Sharing Printer on Network

Printer is installed on primary PC by USB cable locally and shared out and listed on network.

When installing to additional PC it will not install driver.

Is there something on the primary setup that needs to be changed.

Do you install it as a network printer or a local printer?? There should'nt be anything you need to change. Check your permissions on the local machine if it is shared correctly.

Use of HPJ4680 in a network with Mac & PC connected to router

Ok what you do is, install the printer as a LOCAL one on one of the PC's, Probably the XP, one, would be best. or perhaps the PC; actually "Connected" to the D-link router & Modem, then Now install this printer , as a LOCAL, printer, and set as DEFAULT, enable Printer Sharing. Now, ALL PC's MUST, have a Name, Belong to the same Workgroup, have a Password. On the "Other" PC's Install the Printer as a Network Printer, browse for it and connect. Print a test page from each. Remember the PC with the printer attached, must obviously be ON or the "Others" cannot connect and print.. Make sure all network permissions are set sharing is set, especially on the Win 7. Just make sure they can all "See" each other first, before try all this.. the network MUST be intact and communicatable from each PC to at least the PC with the printer attached. How to share printer B-SX5T , under Windows XP

Hi there,

Please follow the below steps -

1) Go to Start and click Control Panel. Control Panel Window will appear, then double click Printers and faxes.

2) Printers and Faxes window will appear. Right click the printer you want to share, then click Sharing…

Note: Make sure you've enabled File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks on network card's properties.

3) Select Sharing tab and tick Share this printer to share the printer. You can type in a new name in the Share name text box to change your printer name on the network, however this will not change the printer name on your computer. Click Apply.

Note: If the other users using different version of Windows to access your printer, they will need to install printer driver themselves. You can help by installing additional printer drivers on your Windows XP, so that the printer driver will be installed when other users access the shared printer with different version of Windows. Click Additional Drivers, tick additional driver you would like to install. You will be prompted to install those additional drivers after clicking OK.

4) Once you have shared the printer, you will see there is a hand supporting your printer.

Please post comments if you need more help or information...........

Good Luck!!

Thanks

How czn i install my printer so that can network

You first need to check if the printer is compatible with Vista. Then, if it is,Install the printer on one of the machines. Once it has installed, go into printers and right click on the printer itself, then select Sharing or Sharing and Security and allow the printer to be shared. You may have to switch on file and printer sharing before you can share the printer. Then, go onto the other machine and go to install printer. In the dialog window that opens, choose network printer and then search. When the printer appears in the search area, select it and choose install. The system will then download the appropriate drivers from one machine onto the other through the network and install the printer. This assumes that you have both machines connected to your home network and file and printer sharing is turned on, on both machines. To use the printer over the network, the machine the printer is connected too MUST be turned on.

Print sharing

No matter how you slice it, if you want to share the printer, you will be creating a network. If I remember this printer correctly, it has an Ethernet port to connect to a network or USB to connect ot a computer. If your router supports wired connections, you can connect it there and just inistall drivers on each device and selec tthe network option. If not, you will probably want to connect it via USB to your desktop machine and enable print sharing on that machine. Te enable printer sharing, open up the Network and Sharing Center. In the Sharing and Discovery section, turn on the option for Printer Sharing. You will still need to install the XP driver on the netbook and select the network option, but give it the proper network location (ie.\\mycomputer\this printer).
