Question about Brother HL-2040 Laser Printer
Are you using the USB connection? Try a new cable and plugging the unit into a different port. Make sure the ports work with a known working device (they can be disabled for security or power-savings). In Windows, you can check the driver/device settings in the Device Manager (from the Control Panel); the power savings setting is part of the advanced settings from the Screen Saver control panel.
If you have a USB hub or print server try a direct connection.
If you are using the parallel port, make sure the connectors are tightly seated (screws and the clips). Again if you have a print server, try a direct connection (to check if that has failed).
Press the GO button if a light is blinking. Also check that you have the correct driver installed. http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public/us/us/en/dlf/download_top.html?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=hl2040_all and pick your OS.
I hope this helps.
