Question about Toshiba Satellite A3 A355D-S6922 Notebook
I have a Toshiba Satelite Laptop. The scroll feature for the touchpad works fine most of the time, but out of no where, it will completely stop working (the scroll feature) and the touchpad symbol on the taskbar in the right corner, has a blue line on the side of it and it just stays there. I can restart the computer and it will work fine again, but it could be anywhere from as little as 3 minutes to 2 weeks and it does it again. Most of the time, it happens before I get off of the computer that time. I took it back to bestbuy and all they did was reinstall the drivers, and it still does the same thing. I have also tried the synaptics driver and that just makes everything worse.
Scrolling is not obvious because there is no area actually marked on the touchpad that shows where it is. Also if you tap the area before doing it, it won't work. Even for me it is hit and miss, since I don't practice with it enough. You could adjust the area that it uses and make it bigger, but then that gets in the way of regular mouse usage.
I would suggest that you try it at a store, and have a sales person show you how to use it.
As for the curser jumping even with that checkmark, well it can. All that checkmark does is turn off the touchpad for a brief moment while oyu are typing. Pause for a second and the touchpad is active again, then slightly bump the touchpad and your mouse will jump. Prove this to yourself by turning off the touchpad entirely with Fn+F9.
In the touchpad settings you can adjust various things to suit you. For example increase the slider for the diable while typing chekmark oyu mentioned, decrease sensitivity, turn off tapping support, etc. Each have thier pros and cons, and that is why they are adjustable.
Also, since you repaired it, I assume they tested it to make sure it was working. And if the touchpad is working, then the jumping adn the scrolling have nothing to do with a hardware problem, it is all software. You can replace hardware till the cows come home and it won't change things. So look at the software settings for scrolling and for "jumping".
