How do i open my 98529 rev s5 to clean it. the cursor keeps jumping around. I don't see the usual screw in the back

With optical mice, you dont clean them like you do an old roller ball style mouse. Take a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol and swap the optical sensor on the bottom...where you see a red light. Also make sure you arent using the mouse on a reflective surface like glass. See if using it on a mousepad or something as simple as a piece of paper corrects your problem.

The mouse is slow and hesitant. It doesn't always go where it is suppose to.

You may have a bad battery. Replace the battery.
Also a mousepad is important. Make sure the surface you move the mouse on is for mice.

My curser jumps around when I try to use my laser mouse. I changed batteries and mousepad. Is there a way to clean the inside of the mouse? I wiped the outside with a damp cloth but it is still hard to...

Hi,

are you using a mouse mat or an uneven surface?

Laser Mice are renowned for jumping all over the place if the surface it runs over is even slightly uneven

Mouse is jumping

Dear sir,

plzz flllow this instruction for solved your mouse jumping problem once optical mice have problems with certain mousepads or mousing surfaces.

Perhaps changing your USB mouse to a PS/2 mouse or vise versa may also solve the issue.

Cursor on my keypad jumps around

If your cursor moves erratically on the screen (for example, if it jumps around the screen, moves at varying speeds, or selects items on its own), perform the following steps:

1. Clean the surface of the touchpad with a dry, soft cloth to remove grease, sweat, moisture, or other liquids.

2. Adjust the sensitivity of the touch pad:.

a. Click the Start button and click Control Panel.

b. Click Printers and Other Hardware.

c. Click Mouse.

d. When the Mouse Properties window appears, click the Pointer Options tab.

e. Under Select a pointer speed:, click to move the slider bar closer to Slow.

f. Click OK.

g. Check to see if the touch pad still behaves erratically.

3. If the touchpad still caused the cursor to behave erratically, attach an external mouse to your computer and restart your computer. Use the external mouse to see if your cursor still moves erratically.

4. After connecting an external mouse, uninstall the touchpad driver from the Device manager listed under the "mice and other pointing devices" category and restart the Computer.

5. Download the Touchpad driver compatible to the Operating System installed on the Computer from the manufacturer's site and install it after restarting the Computer.

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!

You can go to : http://www.microsoft.com/enable/training/windowsme/mouse.aspx

That guide will give you directions to adjust your mouse properties. I am pretty sure your pointer speed is set to high.

USB mouse is jittery

Try the mouse on a different surface, also be sure you do not have any light directed at the mouse - this confuses the eye. Although no mouse pad is required for an optical mouse, sometimes it helps

HP Optical Mouse Curser jumps around

I respectfully disagree with amusedgeek. He is correct aout the textured surface, though.Optical mice will take snapshots many times a second and reposition the cursor according to where the pattern was last. Rather than a single color, a pattern is your best bet for an optical mouse. The only thing I recommend is to make sure the mousepad isn't reflective at all- no glossy or semi-glossy surface. You want it to be non-reflective. Just to be sure there is nothing wrong with the mouse, you can test it simply by putting it on a newspaper and scrolling around.

Slow cursor

Hiya! Check your batteries (if wireless) and try a different mousing surface. They can be picky with reflective or transparent surfaces. If you want, you can check out the mouse curser speed settings by going to Start > Control Panel > Mouse > Pointer Options. You should see a speed slider there.
