If the optical drive On/Off utility icon says OFF you cannot open the drive. You will have to turn it ON.
Point to the icon with the mouse cursor and right click. You will have the option to turn power to drive ON. Verify it by pressing Fn-TAB.

Remove dvd drive

Get a paper clip and straighten half of it out. Now look for a small hole in the face of the DVD drive.
If the drive is Trayless then there should still be a small hole in the dvd location..If the DVD has a tray make sure that the laptop is powered down, insert the Paper clip in to this hole and the DVD tray will pop open.. If the DVD inserts in to the drive(Trayless), Then make sure the laptop is on and insert in to the hole that will be in this same area.

I have a Lenovo 3000 Y530 and the DVD drive is not being detected?

Hi. I think you could try updating the drivers2_bing.gif for your DVD drive or by deleting the upper and lower filters on the registry2_bing.gif so that we could verify if this a hardware or software issue. follow this instruction on deleting the upper and lower filters on the registry:
  1. Click the Start button and click in the Start Search box2_bing.gif.
  2. Type regedit, and then press the <Enter> key.
Note: The User Account Control window may appear. If so, click Continue. The Registry2_bing.gif Editor window appears.
  3. Click the arrow next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
  4. Click the arrow next to SYSTEM.
  5. Click the arrow next to CurrentControlSet.
  6. Click the arrow next to Control.
  7. Click the arrow next to Class.
  8. Click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
  9. In the right-hand pane of the window, click UpperFilters.
  10. Click Edit on the menu bar.
  11. Click Delete. The Confirm Value Delete window appears.
  12. Click Yes.
  13. In the right-hand pane of the window, click LowerFilters.
  14. Click Edit on the menu bar.
  15. Click Delete. The Confirm Value Delete window appears.
  16. Click Yes.
  17. Click File, and then click Exit.
  18. Click the Start button.
  19. Click the arrow to the right of the lock icon.
  20. Select Restart.
If this doesnt fix the issue this might be a already a hardware issue and consider replacing your Optical Drive. Hope this helps

Blue screen c0o00021a fatal system error, even in safe mode. cant get the DVD drive to open; it clicks when the latch is depressed, but doesn't open (to try to boot from a repair disk). How do I overcome...

Should be a small hole in DVD drive lid.
Turn off computer and carefully insert a straightened paper clip.
Gently push & the lid should pop out

No icons or taskbar after booting.

Have you tried a safe mode boot (press F8 just before the win start screen and choose safe mode) to see what happens and check for the installed programs. Also try in safe mode with network, update yor antivirus and do a full scan.

The cd rom on my tablet pc will not respond.

what you can do is to remove the optical drive (since I believe that is removable) then put it back again.

Then come back to me so we can find out the real problem.

"D:\ is not accessible" message

If the cd is in the drive then you have a problem with the drive itself. It might work on a cd but won;t on a dvd. That indicates the heads have gone out of alignment.

Usually means you need to replace the drive.

To recover the hard disk to it's original contents, do the following:

2. The recovery process might take up to 2 hours.

Attention: All of the files on the primary hard disk partition (usually drive C) will be lost in the recovry process. However, before any data is overwritten you will be give the opportunity to save one or more files to other media.

Power the computer using the AC adapter and ensure a fully charged battery is installed before proceeding.
