Question about SanDisk Cruzer Micro 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive

1 Answer

I have a cruzer flash drive 4gb. i have been using it with no problem. then all of a sudden...when i open a file...then try to save back over it...i am told i dont have permission to do it. then...the file i tried to save over is automatically deleted. i dont understand why it does this. saving new files is no problem, saving over previous files is the problem.

I dont have a 3rd party software on it...that i am aware of. i did try formatting the flash drive that didnt work. :(

  • lamiller0550 May 09, 2010

this happens with every computer i use it on...not sure if that information helps. i have windows xp on all of my computers that i use it on. i am basically figuring that it is the flashdrive doing it. i have even installed and uninstalled the U3 cruzer program. still nothing.

  • lamiller0550 May 11, 2010

ok, so today i bought a completely different flash drive to see what it would do, and i only tried doing the same thing to one of the files and i got the same problems.

  • lamiller0550 May 12, 2010

ok, so i do appreciate all the help, but the tone of your helping is very off putting. i was buying another flash drive anyway, so i was trying it on the new one. (if i wouldnt haev had this other flash drive i wldnt have been able to narrow it down.) Also, i do not use the USB program. it was completely uninstalled from the drive. i only put it back on and off for troubleshooting purposes. so as i 3rd party program on usb. i figured out that it is the version of my program that was doing it. apparently i was working with with a word version from 2000. the 2 computers i used the flash drive on both had the old version. again, all help was appreciated but try taking out the exclamation points next time.

ok, download hp drive format tool, (google for it), and try formatting again with it....if the problem persist that its a system problem and the operating system itself under some options causing this....what os do u have?

  • mike nasr May 10, 2010

wel i asked you about if u have any software installed on your computer that belongs to flash drive,u told me no! **** the right answer is yes, czz U3 cruzer programe is the one that should be blamed. :) it is a software for the flash drive, so it should have some high priority permitions and controle over the flash drive...u must check its seetings carefully. and its the only logic cause of the problem, (since u can replace files on ur hard drive).
any way, y do u need such programe, i believe u can do any thing with the flash drive , with it or without it?
so my recomandation is, check the setings of the flash drive programe(u3 cruzer), if there is nothing there that sound like a problem, like some boxes u need to check/uncheck them, then try to update the programe or download newer versions,(i assum u do have USB 2.0 support), and if every thing ddnt work, dnt worry just delete the programe and format the usb, and use it without it programe, its alot safer, faster, and dependent......GD luck

u didnt need to get a new drive!
any way, lets start all over again:
1- uninstall the program U3 cruser manager.
2- copy your files frome usb to hard drive.
3- download HP drive key format tool, and format your usb to NTFS.
4- unplug and replug your usb safely!
5- right click on the files you need to copy and check if they are sett as READ ONLY.../if they are uncheck the read only.
6- copy the files one by one...if copied correctly, then try to copy again, to see if the replacement of files will work!
if it did, than your done, if not then:
    - check the extansion of the files that cannot be replaced.
    - open command promp, navigate to the drive by wrighting x:  where x is your usb drive letter, and type chkdsk....after that navigate to the location of the files you need to copy, i suppose they are located in the hard drive also, for example, if they are located in c under the folder files, you wright, c: then cd files , then type dir , and then locate the file u need to copy and type, copy filename x: ,
where x is your usb drive letter.

__if nothing worked, then you can finaly try to rename the file in your usb, or add some letters to its name before coping.....
the problem is in your operating system, that means there is somthing preventing you from taking full ownership to externel drives and that can be done by some antiviruses, and softwares alike, or you might be using the another user type, dnt forget to login in safe mode (press F8 while booting) and try to copy files there, if it worked correctly, than the problem is 100% os related, (driver problem, antivirus.....)
the most important is do not use any 3rd party USB software....
gd luck, and lett me know what happend...

How do you save files on a sandisk cruzer flash drive?

Insert the cruzer into the usb port. You should see a message pop up and say new hardware found and then flash off. It may also say usb memory or storage device or even recognize it as the cruzor. This recognition process is fairly quick say 5-10 seconds. After that the computer knows what the cruzer is and its ready for use.

The cruzer is now seen as another drive or storage drive on your computer. Your hard drive is usually C , the CD/DVD would be D drive and the cruzer would be seen as E. If you are in a program and want to save to the cruzer you open the file/save and you should see E drive or Cruzer if not click on my computer and look for it there. Once you find it just click on it and then hit save/ok. Thats all there is to using one. Once you know how to find it as a save option or a loading option then you just treat it like a hard drive.

Once you get it sorted out you will use it a lot. They are very handy.

Assuming you have the drive hooked up to your PC, you should be able to open the drive using My Computer. You can simply open the folder and drag and drop any files you wish to save onto your SanDisk drive.

Sandisk Cruzer Micro 2.0 problem

Should show up in "My Computer" as a removable drive with letter designator. Then it is simply a matter of drag and drop to copy files using the mouse. If XP doesn't recognize the drive, put it in another USB port, and or try it on another computer. If it doesn't show up then, take it back to the store.
