Does not run any longer....smells like it is burning...

Would that be the brushes or the motor and it is worth fixing?

Probable not worth repairing, if it smells then it got hot and might have melted the windings on the armature or field,, but take a look inside the handle area for any signs of burning and check the condition of the brushes before buying new one.

I have the model 36932 with direct drive. lately, there is the distinct smell of rubber when starting up and running. There is no belt on this machine. What could be causing the smell? roger

Check that the rotating brush is not seized and the belt is not slipping on it or the motor drive shaft. The belt will burn through if the machine is left to run any longer.

Is it worth trying to fix my kirby vaccum? The motor smells like its burning when we run it

Generally the smell is the rubber belt that attaches from the motor to the brush.
Make sur the brush rollers are clean and spin freely, check the belt at the same time.
Please let me know if this helps.

Is a grinder worth repairing when you can smell the motor? what parts would you expect to have to replace?

If the only part that's causing the burning smell is the brushes, yes it's worth fixing.
If it's overheating because the bearings are bad, yes it's worth fixing.
If the armature and/or field is overheated and damaged then you're better off getting a new one.

Vacuum smells like something is burning

Ok...Check the brush roll is free not sticky..Next is the belt okay, not jamming on the brush roll making the burning smell...You could take off the roll and run motor on its own ..finding out if its the motor..

My Model 2961 Eureka wont take power now?

Hi,

Anytime that you smell that electrical burning smell on a vacuum cleaner, this is the motor going bad. There are two distinctive burning smells in fixing vacuum cleaners, the electrical burning smell which is the motor, and a rubber burning smell which is the belt.

The bagless vacuums cleaners in general, their motors last usually no more then 3-5 years. The motor in bagless vacuums work much harder then the motors in their bagged counterparts.

The motors in Eureka vacuums can range in price from $70-$120. If you can provide me with the exact model number on your vacuum cleaner (can be found on the bottom or the back of the machine on the sticker that also contains the serial number) I will be able to get you the part number, and price of the motor that's used in your vacuum.

It may be worth considering to just get a new vacuum cleaner at this point. If you'd like me to give you a personalized recommendation specifically for your unique cleaning needs, I'd be honored to do so. Please just let me know what types of floors you have mostly in the home and I'll be happy to share my knowledge of vacuum cleaners.

I hope this was helpful to you. If you found this helpful, please be sure to rate the repair helpful so other Fixya users that have this same problem can easily find the answer.

Thanks so much,

Chris J.

Electrical Burning Smell from Henry HVR200 Vacuum Cleaner

Hi! Highly unlikely that you need a new motor.  Highly likely that you need new carbon brushes.  The smell is caused by excessive sparking between the worn brushes and the copper commutator segments.  Most carbon brushes (and from memory I suspect this includes Henry's) have a copper wire buried in their last few millimeters, and you really need to change them before that becomes exposed.   The longer you run it like this, the more likely you are to damage the commutator, so change them sooner rather than later.  When you change the brushes, you can smooth off the commutator with very fine abrasive paper (the objective is to smooth it, not scratch it!), and then blow all the dust away (or **** it away if you have another vac, of course).  Incidentally, you don't say if you are using a paper bag in your Henry. Some people, because the top-hat filter is so good, try to manage without a bag.  This is false economy!  You should always use a bag. I hope this helps! I value feedback, so please remember to rate this response.

Burning (electrical) smell and other symptoms...

suppressor very unlikely to be the source of problems and would not explain the motor clicking
i think the main problem may be a faulty motor.remove the electrical connection and take the motor out - just held in by bolts - and examine carefully the motor commutator - the segments of copper the brushes run on.
i think you may find one or more segments lifted which would explain the clicking noise and maybe the burning smell. it would also explain the lack of motor rotation - just coincidence it happened on dry.

Burning Smell

Check the carbon motor brushes, there might be arcing on the armature. New brushes may help if the armature is ok.
