No specified folder error

when setting up scanning to smb check the file path you are sending the document to. it is easier to store the folder on the c:\ drive under scans. Also ensure you have the correct username and password for the pc that has the file stored on it and set the NTLM setting to accept v1/v2.

  • Lift the lid and place the document print-side-down on the scanner glass.

  • Next move the document to the right front corner of the glass, then lower the lid.

  • Press the "Scan to" button. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the application on the computer that you want to send the fax to on the Officejet's screen. I need to scan documents in jpg format. I notice there is an option to choose tif/jpg but I don't seem to be able to choose the jpg option it just keeps choosing tif. How can I scan in...

Everyone above has cut and pasted from the Ricoh manual, which as any tech will tell you is worthless. There is some other setting that must be set to force the "TIFF/JPG" to toggle - hence why no one has figured it out.

How to convert scanning documents to MS-words

You are going to want to find any OCR software that works for your printer. OCR is 'Optical Character Recognition'. It will take the scan and convert it into a text document, which is either already compatible for MS Word, or easily converted itself.

I am trying to get my dell v305w printer to scan and it keeps telling me downloading application list and then it says after 2 mins unable to download apps

The printer is trying to connect to your pc to download a list of programs to send the scanned document and/or picture to when you use your scanner.

The printer will only scan to certain software and there are separate choices for handling pictures and text documents.

When it tries to communicate with your pc to find software that it can scan to, its not finding any installed that will work with your printer. Its telling you that it is unable to get the list of applications after attempting to connect with your pc.

    So, what does that mean?

It means that either "bi directional support" is not enabled in your printing preference so your printer is limited to sending info one way oly (to the computer). If this is the case you can go to your control panel and then choose printers and check the preferences listed there.

    OR

You don't have applications installed in your pc that your printer can send scanned documents to.

If this is the case then you need to install software that your printer will work with and then set the options on your printer to pick the default you want to use with both pictures and text documents.

Printers usually accept microsoft word, word pad, microsoft works and any other word processing software to scan text documents to.

Printers usually accept just about any picture editing software installed on your pc to send scanned pictures to.

You can avoid all of the above by checking to make sure that your printers software is 100% installed including the scanning features. Go to the Dell website and update the drivers on your printer to make sure you have the full version that is most current.

The printer will always use its own program to scan both documents and text to regardless of the other software applications you might have installed on your pc.

Scanning document and editing in word

    Hai,

HP Solution center software installed for your printer model has OCR feature to edit the scanned text image, but its not guaranteed.

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) programs cannot reproduce a document with 100% accuracy every time. Some manual correction of the page is necessary. The following information might help increase the accuracy of the OCR.

1.You must click Scan Document from the HP Solution Center to begin the scan for the OCR to work.
2.On the Scan Document Button window, select a compatible program in the Scan to drop-down. The perform OCR setting then appears to the right.
3.On the Scan Document button Window, select the Scan Document Settings button.
4.Make sure at least 300 ppi is selected.
5.Remove the setting from Flowed Text in the Scan Settings window. If it is not already selected, select it now. This option will work correctly only in word processing programs capable of accepting this type of output. Microsoft WordPad, for example, will not accept this type of output.
6.Repeat Step 5 with the Retain page formatting setting.

Note: If the above solution didnt work, then you have to buy third party OCR software.

    Thanks & Regards
