Turn the computer off.
Disconnect the AC power.
Remove the battery.
Buy a can of compressed-air, and give your computer a "blow-job", because a layer of dust inside your computer is blocking your heat-radiators, and thus is causing your computer to overheat.

My pcg-k33 clean as a whistle inside. What other solution is there?

    >> the fan turns on and stays on when i turn the laPtop on.

The fan may be programmed to start-up at 'full' speed, and then slow-down (and get quieter) if the motherboard detects a "normal" (not "too-hot") temperature.

    >> so maybe its over heating.

It should take a few minutes to get "too-hot", such that it shuts itself down, to prevent heat-related damage. But, are you saying that it shuts-down _immediately_ when you turn it on?

I think that its time to take the computer & power-brick to a qualified technician, for professional trouble-shooting.

Sony Vaio K33; the fan seems to run all of the time, hot and nois

i had the same problem with my vaio.

when disassembling the notebook: after you remove the metal cover under the keyboard, you'll see three areas covered with black thermal tape. peel back the thermal tape and you should see tightly packed dust buildups in those areas. use a q-tip and vacuum if you can or air duster. be sure to clean the fans as well as the heatsink assembly.

once that is done, your noise level should be reduced by about 60-70%.

if you're still running hot, consider cleaning the old thermal grease off your processor and reapplying a new layer.
