Removing the Chuck on a Makita 3/8 Corded Drill

I have a Makita 3/8 Corded Drill. The nameplate shows ''No. 81311'', it is 3.3A and it has 95 08 in one box. The closest thing I've found online is the 6408, but it is 4.8A. Anyway, I'm trying to remove the chuck so I can install a Portalign tool and I can't find a way to do it. A 5 mm allen wrench fits inside the chuck, but then what. I tried holding the chuck and turning the wrench, then I tried hitting the wrench with a hammer. Neither did anything. Any ideas?

There is a 6 mm allen socket that won't turn independly of the chuck (looks like it is there to hold the chuck) so I put the allen wrench in the socket, chucked it up in the vice and tried to power it off. Both directions. No luck.

Did you remove the chuck retaining screw first?? you are on the right track with the hammer and wrench you might have to hit it a couple times

the screw is left hand thread, I would try tightening the chuck a little first or if you have an impact driver that will break it loose.

Hi I have a DA4000lr angle makita drill I am trying to make it a straight drill.problem is that when I've fitted the chuck straight onto the drill , it is so violent .need to make it ok Thanks andy

Here is the manual for your drill. It does show you how to remove the angle attachment and installing a straight chuck. Maybe when you install the straight chuck it is not positioned correctly.

How do you take the chuck off makita bhp 451

After removing the screw lock the short end of a 3/8" to 1/2" allen wrench in the chuck. Firmly hold the drill on the edge of a bench or lock it in a vice so you can strike the allen wrench hard and fast. The screw is reverse threaded but the chuck turns lefty loosy like a regular nut and bolt. It's the best and only way to break the chuck free.

How do i remove the chuck from a Makita 8391D

I think you will find that if you open the chuck fully you will see a cross head screw inside the chuck which you need to undo before removing the chuck. this secure the chuck from unscrewing while being used in reverse to undo screws. Once this screw is out a spanner is used at the base of the chuck to unscrew it from the shaft. this may need a short sharpe shock to get it to move.

Removing chuck from Makita 64C1 drill

secure the short end of an allen wrench in the chuck, making sure it is as tight as possoble. Useing a wood or hard rubber mallet strick the long end of the allen wrench so it turns counter-clockwise. This should loosen the chuck from the spindle enough that you can unscrew it by hand.

I need to remove the chuck from the drill

In continuation after removing the chuck screw which is left hand thread shift the drill to LOW and use a bent handle allen wrench approx the size of the chuck lock it in the jaws. Turn clutch setting to the drill only position and using a hammer strike the hex key. The chuck has standard threads. To reassemble just reverse this

Chuck change

After removing the screw and inserting the allen wrench shift the drill to the LOW position and turn the clutch to the drill only position. Use an allen wrench about the size of the chuck capacity so that it will not flex when hitting it with a mallet. Sometimes they are stubborn because of the torque but this should work. Put the allen wrench at about a 30deg angle and hit the wrench. I support the chuck on a workbench or a block of wood will do fine. The chuck has standard threads.
