Engine snug to turn. not froze up completely. Overfull oil level.

Drain the gas, then drain the oil. Now refill the oil to the correct amount/height. Remove the spark plug and rinse/clean it in some gas. If there is any build up, scrape it out and make sure the gap is correct. Spin the engine a couple of times to actuate everything. If you see any oil at the spark plug hole, spray a small amount of gas through the spark plug hole and spin the engine to distribute the gas. Reinstall the spark plug and put some gas in the tank. Remove the air cleaner, place your hand over the carb throat and spin the engine a couple of times. You will partially flood the engine, but this will thin any oil left in the cylinder and intake/exhaust ports. Replace the air cleaner and try to start the engine as you normally would. You should have compression by now and the engine should be trying to run. If it feels like it is still flooded, remove the spark plug again and spin the engine a couple of times with the throttle in the off position. Reinstall the spark plug after a few minutes and try to start the engine normally. It should run. It will probably be a bit rough and smoke, but this should pass once the oil burns away. If the engine still runs rough after the smoke clears, clean the spark plug again as it may be fouled.

Craftsman 32cc weed trimmer will not stay running when trigger depressed after start & warmup ... Bad gas? Plug gap? Choke adjustment? Suggestions?

Check the fuel filter, air cleaner, and muffler for plugging. Check the fuel lines for decay or other damage. Plug gap should be 0.020". Bad fuel usually means poor starting and idling as well as poor high speed running. Try setting the H jet needle CCW somewhat to increase fuel input to the engine. It should 4-stroke lightly at speed, then 2-stroke immediately when the line is cutting. Be sure to use a modern synthetic saw oil in the fuel (available at home centers, hardware stores, and saw dealers) and be sure to shake the container thoroughly just before filling the tank each time to prevent oil starvation. Hope this helps!

Motor will start on choke setting and then it immediately dies when moving the choke lever to the run position. Cleaned carb, new plug new air cleaner and checked all linkages. the motor has new oil and...

You say you cleaned the carb. If you did that by spraying cleaner in through the choke, that's good, but it doesn't get to the root of the problem. The problem is getting the gas into the carb. Try this. drain the gas. Put a small amount of carb cleaner and gas in the tank (about 1:1) Start it up, but don't run it dry. Let it sit for an hour. Then start it up and run the tank dry. Then try just a little gas to see if that fixed it. If not, repeat. Good luck Al K

Back fires and rough engine

Drain your fuel tank first. Then mix 50/50 parts mixing oil and fresh gas. Put fresh gas into the saw as well as putting in a new spark plug and start it up. Stale gas (gas that has sat in the tank or gas jug for an extended period of time), bad gas or water in the gas will cause it to rough idle and back fire.

ENGINE WILL NOT START

My power-washer suffers from same problem after sitting idle.

After paying for a new carburetor, I discovered how important it is to drain the gas if washer is going to sit idle.

Another time, we had a problem with the screen covering exhaust outlet. Deposits from the engine + dirt clogged the screen. Although it's not the solution for everybody, we broke the screen open with a screwdriver and the machine ran fine after that.

Small gas engines require 3 things. Compression, spark, and fuel. Take out spark plug. Put finger over spark plug hole and pull cord or push starter. Do you feel suction? If yes, then you have compression.

If machine will not turn over at all, then your motor might have run out of oil. Power washer needs oil in 2 places. It needs oil for the engine just like a lawn mower. Oil plugs are located low on each side of engine. It doesn't hurt to change oil, but do NOT NOT turn small engine upside down or oil will get into carburetor which requires removal and cleaning. I learned that the hard way.

The power washer also needs oil for the pump head. This is the box attached to front of engine. Usually 10W20 non-detergent is a good choice. Oil is usually about half way up inside pump head.

Now hook spark-wire back to spark plug. Hold spark plug in hand. Touch threads of spark plug to metal spark plug opening. Now pull cord or push starter. Do you see sparking in the spark plug gap? If yes, then you have spark. Put new spark plug in anyway. If no, then you need parts from small engine repair service.

Spark plug is in. Take off air filter so you have access to carburetor air intake. Put fresh gas in tank. Use starter spray or WD-40 as a starting accelerant. Set your choke to start engine. Spray starter fluid into carburetor opening and pull cord or push starter. The engine should fire up on the starter fluid. If engine doesn't fire, then try setting choke in different positions. If engine doesn't fire up then carburetor is suspect.

If engine fires but dies, keep spraying starter fluid into carburetor to see if you can keep it going that way ... and then move choke in different positions ... you might need extra hands for that maneuver.

If machine turns on, but dies when filter is put back, then filter might be clogged. Time for a new filter anyway.

Finally check the fuel filter and fuel line below the gas tank. It usually has a hex head bolt. Loosen bolt and see if fuel is able to fall out of tank. Loosen rubber fuel line at both ends and see if fuel is flowing. This will tell you if fuel can get to carburetor.

Usually these measures get the thing going or tell you if professional service is needed.

John Deere 445 Garden Tractor, starts immediately,

could be bad gas, but it sounds like a choke problem. did it sit over the winter with less than a half tank of gas in it. try putting some rubbing alcohol in the fuel or draining the tank and disconnecting the gas line so you can drain the gas out of the carb. also check the gap of the spark plug and make sure that is correct. when was the last time there was fresh oil put in. also check the air filter, it could be full of dirt.

Rough start, won't stay running. Got bad gas at

Drain the tank of the old fuel completely, try to drain the fuel lines as best you can. Whilst the tank is empty, if you can remove the fuel pump and clean out the filter for debris or gunk. Pull out the spark plugs and see if they have fouled, don't try cleaning them just replace. I have found once a plug is fouled, it is best to just bite the bullit and buy new ones as issues can happen again.

Husqvarna chain saw works great until its shut off then it wont start again

A couple of suggestions:

How old is the gas in the tank? If it has sat for a year in the tank or the can, the gas won't burn as easily because of octane breakdown. Mix in newly bought gas (with oil of course).

Pull the spark plug(s) and check the spark gap referring to your manual. If the gap is too wide, you'll have a hard time starting it.
It's also a good idea to check how dirty your spark plugs are, and clean if necessary.

Depending on the age of the saw, if it's 35 years old or more, you may have to put less 2-cycle oil into your mix. The ratio has changed for all 2 cycle engines if they're approximately 35 years or older. Instead of 30 to 1 it's now 50 to 1.

My bike is running rough and hesitating.

I think you will either have to dismantle the carb and clean the floats and jets. Or you need new filter that is inside the gas tank.
