Well you have a couple choices to do this you can either remove the deck which will take like 15 min to take off and 20 to put back or you can do it like i do. and take a jack and jack up the rear axle or the hitch area and you can lay there next to it and have enough clearance to get to them. just make sure your deck is all the way up. if your going to pull the deck make sure the deck is all they way down. good luck

How do you change cutting blade on a Sears Craftsman Mower?

Hi Bill:
Changing blades is pretty straightforward but does involve some Safety Hazards.
- Blades can have sharp bits - WEAR GLOVES
- Running engines can make the blade BITE - BAD
ALWAYS disconnect spark plug lead whaen changing blade.
Easy Part:
- Raise deck to maximum height
- If possible, park with front wheels on a ramp to get better access under deck.
- Use socket wrench to remove bolt from centre of blade. Here's where the gloves help as you hold the end of the blade to prevent it from turning when you apply force to remove the bolt.
TA DA! The blade will come off.
- To install new or sharpened blade (I use an angle grinder to sharpen mine) tuck it in place, install the bolt, snug it up, make sure any notches or splines line up, protect your hands (gloves) while you tighten the bolt. and you're back to cutting grass.
Cheerfuls.

What is the best way and how to remove mower deck for cleaning

Why do you think you need to remove the whole deck just to clean it and sharpen the blades? What kind of design would that be, manufacturers wouldn't sell too many lawn mowers if you had to remove the whole deck just to do what you're asking

Husqvarna instructions

On ZTRs you raise the whole front of the mower including the deck. To prevent the blades from while loosing and tightening you use a wooden block between the blade tip and the mower deck.
When retightening the blade torque the blade bolt to 45-55 ft/lbs (60-75 Nm).

Two blade mower deck, bearing bad on right can I run with only 1 blade

if you do, you would have to figure out the new belt length and routing. It would be easier to just change the spindle. You could probably just replace the bearing but my guess would be the whole assembly would be about the same price on amazon. If you do change the whole assembly, make sure and keep your old spindle just in case you hit something and the caseing breaks.

My riding mower balde is catching on the housing

Something is bent, be it the blade or part of the deck. With the mower off you can look under the deck with the deck fully raised. Turn the blades by hand to see where it is hitting. This really would be easier if the deck was removed. If you need instructions to remove the deck then reply asking for them and I will type it out for you. Not too hard for you to figure out if you are good with your hands. If not good with hands it is relatively easy proceedure to follow.

If this was really helpful, please rate.

The mower is not cutting even. we changed the blades and leveled the deck but can not seem to fix the problem

Everything sounds and looks good but the cut is uneven. I would think the only possibilities are a freewheeling blade, or an upside down blade. Neither situation is rare. If neither of those is possible I think I would set the whole thing up on jack stands and make sure nothing is going akilter in the mechanism which raises and lowers the deck, one side could be hung up.

Your owner's manual should give you full instructions on removing the mowing deck from your tractor....once it is off, should be a simple matter of turning the deck upright and removing the bolts which hold the blades to the spindles and replacing the blades..... ;-D

Have deck off and new blades on my MTD Yard machine 42 in . Is there a easier way than removing all the bolts in the pulleys and on the gurads... just wondering ! Thanks, Bob

If replacing just the blades, it's easier to turn the mower up, lock the blade down with a piece of wood or ?? to prevent moving while taking bolt off. It takes about 3min to change them this way.

Mowing deck pullies, mounting and spring application.

Download the product manual from the Sears website. Murray manufactured these tractors so you can download the manual from the Murray website also. Procedure for replacing the mower deck belt is quite simple. No need to remove the deck. Spring location also on diagrams. Mower deck parts diagram breaks down the whole assembly. Easier way to remove pulleys is using an impact wrench, otherwise hold the blade while removig the nut that holds the pulley in place. Use a heavy glove to hold the blade for safety!

Craftsman 42 inch riding lawn mower is not cutting evenly

The first thing to check is your blades. If one is bent, it will never cut even. It happens a lot hitting roots, antbeds, etc. Mulching blades will bend easier than a straight blade. It's best to take them off and lay one on top of the other to see if they're bent.
