Take the charger and your laptop to a qualified technician, for proper trouble-shooting.

Either the charger is not working,
or the connector inside the laptop is physically damaged, i.e., not connected to the motherboard.

It's nothing that you can "fix" yourself, unless you're a qualified technician.

I bought a new battery for laptop and it still wont charge

Dell uses proprietary equipment. IF the laptop wont work when plugged in and it is the original Dell charger, you need to check the charger, if the charger wont work then the battery wont charge. Note that it might be the connection on the board inside the laptop especially if the cord got pulled on while plugged into the laptop.

My dell inspiron plugged in not charging

buy a replacement charger
if this does not work
i suspect the socket is perhaps damaged

sometimes its the laptops power management

so take the battery off
open the screen
press the power on

wait a few seconds

plug the battery back and the power
and see if the light flashes for charge again
i do suspect the charger or the laptops power socket...

Dell laptop wont charge battery.

The Laptop charger or the charging point itself is bad or damaged. You'll need to try different charger to take your laptop to any nearest computer repair shop to have charging point repaired or replaced.

MY DELL INSPIRON 1420 WHEN I PLUG IN BUT NOT CHARGING HOW TO FIX IT.

Hello, you may find this to be the fault of the charger itself. Dell chargers have a micro thin communication wire that tells the battery to chage and when to stop charging. But this tiny communication wire within the charging cable is very fragile. If it breaks inside, then the laptop battery will not recieve the signal to make it charge. Replacing the laptop charger may be your solution. But it will need to be another Dell charger compatible with your laptop

My dell 1525 won't charge

I have the same laptop and you will need to get a new battery. It fixed mine. When you plug it in you should get a message that says unidentified charger and your computer will not charge up. Hope this helps.

My Dell Laptop syas that my battery is charged. But when I remove the ac power cord the computer immediately shuts down.

Hi there,

I repair laptops professionally and work on many Dells. Here are the possibilities.

1. The plugin connection where the battery meets the charging contacts in its bay where it seats are malfucntioning and the software is reading it incorrectly. To see if this is so, push the small round black button on the battery next to the 5 little dots at one end. If none of those dots light up green, the battery has no charge and the connection I spoke of above is damaged or malfunctioning beyond where you can see. If all the dots light up green, the battery is likely fine but the laptop can;t connect to its charge at the plugin.

2. The basic software (BIOS) is reading the charger/adapter incorrectly and although saying it is charging or charged, the actual charger is ruined inside in the compartment for charging the battery. Dell chargers can actually be incapable of charging the battery but still run the computer on direct current while plugged in.

3. The battery is no longer able to be charged, but is giving a false reading.

4. The DC Power Jack (into which you plug the charger) is only partially damaged and while able to power the laptop directky, cannot charge the battery. (Check to see if it is loose and woobly when you plug in the charger.

The easiest and least expensive way to troubleshoot and fix this yourself is to start with the charger. They can be had on eBay for about $20. Keep in mind that if no green lights show up on the battery, it might be your first choice and it's about the same price.

I hope I've given you enough info the help you determine your true problem.

Regards,

The Selkie

Will not charge although it can detect it is plugged in

Hi Natasha,

Unfortunately this is a common problem with current Dell laptops. The notebook checks whether or not you are using an official Dell charger, and if not then it refuses to charge the battery even though the laptop will still work. This means that if you are using a third party charger you will only be able to keep doing what you are doing.

If on the other hand it IS an official Dell adaptor then it is possible that the sensor in the adaptor is faulty. Either way if you want your battery to charge you will need to get the right adaptor from Dell.

I don't like the fact that Dell notebook work this way as there are many perfectly good third party adaptors on the market but at the moment there is no other way around this issue.

All the best

Rob

Plugged in, not charging inspiron 1521

Hi,

This is a known issue with the AC adapter. If you are under warranty Dell would replace the AC adapter which will fix the issue. If not you may need to purchase one. Also do make sure you have the latest BIOS update on the laptop.

Latest BIOS
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R178138&SystemID=INS_PNT_PM_1521&servicetag=&os=WLH&osl=en&deviceid=13136&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=3&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=1&fileid=242484
Before updating the BIOS make sure you unplug all the USB devices and restart the computer once, and only then start the BIOS update.

Hope this helps. Please rate your feedback!
Thanks,
VJ
