Question about Toshiba Satellite M115-S3144 Notebook

2 Answers

I just bought a Toshiba Satellite M115-S3144 laptop from the pawnshop. I'm trying to play my personal cd's, and I'm getting the error message:no access to the D drive. The ''write protection'' feature is enabled. In order for me to disable this feature, I need the disk to disable it. Is there another way I can disable this option without having the disk? Please help!!

I can't re-install the os, because I bought this laptop with windows xp pro already installed on it. This laptop came from the pawn shop. So I don't have the original disk that came with the laptop. I need to know how I can disable the cd write protection feature without having the disk. And it's telling me to load the disk to do this. Is there another way that I can do this without having the disk to do this?

I have a few questions for you: I will try and help.

(1) What version of windows is that laptop running?

also, have you tried other cd/dvds in the drive?

(2) How are you playing the file? what player?

have you tried opening up the cd files in file explorer?

Does this error occur as soon as you place cd into drive?

Yes you can re-install the OS to resolve this problem. Perform a new installation. Not an upgrade and the write protect feature will be disabled.

Ok lets try changing the permission settings. Right-click on the DVD drive and click on the sharing tab. Click the advanced button. Check the box share this folder and click on permissions. Select everyone from the list and check the boxes Full control-Allow, Change- Allow. Click apply-Ok -OK and close the properties window. Then try burning again. If it does not work then I am afraid you are gonna have to re-install the OS as there is no other option to gain permission to the drive. Touch wood!

Remove bios password on Toshiba Satellite M115-S3144

I agree with Ginko. I had one that someone brought to me, and I removed the CMOS battery. This one was actually soldered to the motherboard. I melted the solder, removed contact to the motherboard, and re-soldered the battery to the motherboard. This fixed it.

Trying to burn pics to a cdr cannot download nero any error keeps coming up i have a satellite m115-s3094

Most operating systems from XP onwards will write to a CD-RW drive without ANY third party softwre. Forget Nero and try selecting and "drag and drop the pics in Explorer.

M115 won't boot

Thanks - that makes more sense. Sounds like a hardware problem. Most likely suspect, the hard drive. You'll want to get some diagnostic tests to run. I'd recommend just booting the CD to a command prompt and running some tests. You can search for some bootable cd's for this purpose that will make your like a bit easier www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd.

WILL NOT TURN ON AFTER TRYING TO ACCESS MOTHERBOARD

You have to disassemble the entire case to get to the motherboard. Otherwise the user serviceable parts all have small access panels on the bottom. Did you try removing the battery? Toshibas can be picky at times. Remove the battery and let it sit for a few minutes. Then put it back in and try to start it up. Depending on what you tried to do to get into it you could have caused a data cable to come loose. There are numerous small flat multi-wire cables that connect to the motherboard. it's easy to get one to come loose and not realize it.

Clean install of windows

You can borrow a WinXP cd from a friend and use the product key that is on the bottom of your laptop. Then download the drivers from the Toshiba website.

Or call Toshiba and order the recovery cd set.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Hard drive replacement

Hi cloudsurfer,
Your best bet is to remove the old hard drive and check the brand name and model number and then go to the manufacturer's website online and look for similar models with the new features that you want.  Make sure there are the same physical dimensions.
A recovery CD will not install windows on a fresh harddrive, to do that you will require a windows install CD.
Hope this helps, and please take the time to rate!
