Click Start
Right-mouse click on My Computer
Choose Manage
Click to get to Disk Management (local)
Use Disk Management to "create" and "format' a partition onto the disk-drive, and to assign a drive-letter.

How to delete from playlist/mic

Hi
Generally speaking, when you connect an mP3 player to a computer via USB then the storage capability usually shows up in file explorer (My Computer) as an extra drive of some description (often "removable drive"). Its a good idea to have My computer open and showing your drives when you plug the USB cable in, because then you will see the USB drive added to the list and recognise a new drive letter.
Having got a drive letter for your mP3 player you can then scroll through the folders and files on the mP3 player just as if it were a drive in the computer, and hence copy, move and delete files as on the computer. Particularly with an mP3 player with relatively limited capacity, this means that you can change the tracks on it regularly from a larger library on the computer.
Hope this is helpful, if so would you please register that with Fixya
Cheers

No drive letter is assigned to a USB mass storage devise. it is recognised in devises and says it is working properly. A thumb drive works OK and is assesable. This as a 20GB external HD in a Centre X 2...

Well, you can manually assign the drive letter for the Drive. To do this, follow the instructions below:
Right-Click "My Computer" > "Manage" > on the left pane "Disk Management" > on the right pane check out which one is the drive that's not available with it's drive name, after it's located, right-click on the drive and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths" or "Assign Drive Letter", give any letter you want to assign and "Ok". Close the window and open My Computer, you'll be able to see the drive with the drive letter you just assigned. If it doesn't show up, restart your computer while the external hard drive is still connected to the system's usb port.
It's also important to try it on different usb ports or on another system to make sure there's not internal problem or connector/cable problem with it.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

In the control panel, go to administrative tools, open computer management. On the left side, there will be a "Disk Management" section, use that to assign a drive letter to your hard drive.

Hard drive not recognised

It may not appear like your other drives eg. C: d: etc
it may appear as a removable drive lower down in the list.

Or you may have to add a drive letter

To add a drive letter in XP
Go to control panel, administrative tools, computer management.

Now select disk management, your drive should show in here
right click on it and click change drive letter and paths
now click add at the bottom of this box and just click ok

You should now be able to see it fine

Usb port didn't recognise My Passport Essential 160

Front panels of computers (earlier motherboards) dont fully support USB devices, better to connect it at the back of you PC. Also find in BIOS if USB2.0 SUPPORT is enabled. If any of your USB is damages (pins have same connection) other next to it won't work.

My maxtor 500gb driver won't work. The power light shows that it is on, though my computer nor any other also don't recognise it and the drive letter doesn't show up

Make sure that the SATA wires are fastened securely. Download the current driver for your particular hard disk drive and operating system and install. Write back if neither one fixes problem.

It sounds like the drive letter that the camera wants is already assigned to another device. The link below will help you change the drive letter.
