We had a power surge from the campground electrical hookup. Now our usually quiet ac in the rv is running very noisy. What could cause this?

A power surge can trash the motor inside the compressor and the inside fan motor. Now comes the question will the repairs cost less than a whole new unit?

How can I get my flashing phone to work?

Surge can be nasty sucker and it affects different appliances in different ways. Had tv turn on all by itself, a refrigerator compressor was burned out, etc. If some surge hit your phone, it is in all likelihood damaged in the power supply area.

I have Frigidaire model# FRS26H5ASB4 and had a recent bad outlet surge of power. Now all light are on in the frig but the Compressor and Ice Maker are not working. How can I find out the what the prob

Ice maker won't work if compressor will not run, of course. I would suspect the main circuit board if there was a bad surge of electricity, or the problem could be at the compressor, i.e., a bad relay, overload, or start capacitor.

Refrigarator not working after power outage

When power goes on and off suddenly, it can cause the compressor to overload and "trip out" This is supposed to protect the compressor from being electrically damaged. In most cases, after 10 or 15 minutes, the compressor will reset. It is usually safer to switch off the fridge or unplug it for 10 to 15 minutes to ensure a full reset. If it doesn't start, the power surge may have damaged the compressor relay. or overload device on the side of the compressor. I would doubt that it damaged the compressor itself. Be aware of the relay and overload device, unfortunately, there are Techs who will quote for a compressor job when all it needs is a relay or overload.

Emerson 2.8 Cu. Ft. doesn't automatically turn on after power outage

Check breaker. Was there a surge of electricity when the power went out. This may be a simple fix. Sounds like the breaker is tripped. Test the outlet with a light to see that power is to it.

Power went out for 3 seconds electric storm warnings but did not see/hear any lightning strikes. Central air-conditioning fans spins But the compressor doesn't turn on. There is one condenser and looks...

During these storms power gets shut down fora sec and comes back with a tsunami type surge. why? Because the generators are going full blast at the electrical plant in your area. No load is applied anf they sky rocket into Zapland babes! Any slight glitch or momentary outage causes a surge. It goes away but it comes back with a fury. So if your AC's run cap is a little old and tired from workin that condenser like it ain't not thang, Then the resulting surge will zap that puppy and it will look like this:
themobilian_2930.jpgRemove the power from the outside unit and look at that capacitor. It prob has went under. If it is leaky or preggers, it is bad. Replace it and party on! More here

How To Test the Compressor Relay The compressor relay's purpose is to start the compressor. A faulty relay can result in the compressor failing to cycle on. The relay is accessed from the lower rear of the refrigerator the relay is located in the terminal box which is located at the side of the compressor.

Before testing a compressor relay, unplug the refrigerator to avoid an electrical shock hazard. Also, if the compressor uses a capacitor, it must be discharged first to avoid the risk of electrical shock.
Beneath the terminal cover is found the compressor relay , overload protector and the electrical terminals of the compressor motor.

Remove the compressor relay by pulling it straight off from the compressor.

Pull the wire off of the side terminal of the relay. It is connected with a slip on connector. Firmly pull the connector, do not pull on the wire. You may need to use a pair of needle-nose pliers.
Inspect the connector and terminal for corrosion. If either is corroded they should be cleaned or replaced.
There are two types of relays you may encounter, wire coil and solid state. If the relay has an exposed wound wire coil it can be tested for continuity. Otherwise, the relay is of solid state design and requires specialized equipment for testing.

Can my eb5000 generator run an electric 7hp compressor

7 horsepower is approx 5150 Watts so the compressor would be taking this power while running. On startup however the compressor can take a surge of upto 3 or 4 times this power so the generator wouldn't be able to supply this demand . In any case it's not advisable to run a compressor off a generator unless the generator is high powered, 20KVA or greater for 7hp.

Power surge - compressor will only run 10sec and kicks out

your compressor is not running for 10 seconds, its trying to start. This is not an uncommon problem after power surges or after blackouts. Best reason to have a surge supressor for all electrical appliances. Good news is your compressor is most likely fine, its the start kit that has burnt out. Please be careful, if done incorrectly, you can damage your compressor or harm yourself.

Hello; could you please help me to find the answer for this question; 1) what exactly is the surge, and what is the difference between surge and stall? please explain in a simple language because i have...

Stall is the state the armature is in just at startup. Your compressor will draw maximum power at stall. Some say there is a small surge some nano-seconds after the compressor gets rolling ... just as it begins to slow to operating speed.

A electric surge is a temporary increase in line voltage doe to any of a hundred reasons. There is a surge in your home everytime a motor starts. Lightening strike.

Have I properly addressed your question? or have I missed the boat.

Can I recommend Wikiedia for additional reading?

Thanks
