When we turn on our Olympus camera, a red light on the back flashes, then the lens of the camera goes in and out about 4 times. Then the camera just shuts off. We are not sure what the issue is with it. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi! It sounds like your camera lens focus is stuck - could be sand or something in the focus gears - that's the weak spot of these lens. If you can't open the lens and check your lens focus gears yourself, you should contact your local Olympus service center or other camera service center. You can contact me too at email@example.com and I can give you a good price.
the lens may be stuck ... that is not coming out or not returning in either condition causes it to do something like that ,i.e blingink red light or an error code etc .... solution is that you'll need to open up the camera with a set of precission screw drivers and manually turn in or out the lens to start it back in operation either ways its a bit technical if you never did it before ....could be caused by moisture getting into the camera .....
1 Open the lens barrier fully. • The current flash setting is displayed on the monitor. 3 Press íagain to set the flash mode. • Each time you press í, the flash mode changes in the following sequence: “AUTO” – “ Red-eye reduction” – “ Fill-in flash” – “ Flash off”. 4 Press the shutter button halfway. • When the flash fires, the orange lamp lights steady. 5 Press the shutter button fully to take the picture. Flash off, ( it looks like a lightening strike with a line going through it) that will dissable the flash

I have recently had the same problem. I sent my camera back to Olympus who very efficiently repaired it FOC and sent it back with an extended warranty. I gather this is a very common problem with this camera.
