Question about PC Desktops

Satellite Pro "Locks up"

Computer: I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120, Model no. PSACIE-04R00VEN. I'm running Windows XP Professional, Version 2002 servic pack2.

Problem: Occaisionally the whole computer "locks up" - the screen freezes and all input items (mouse, keyboard etc) fail to work. All I can do is hold the power key down to shut it down and then reboot.
The problem may happen upto 3 times in a day, but then does not repeat itself for 1,2,3 weeks. Very random.
The only thing that I have noticed, is that it seems to happen when I have 3-4 web browsing windows open, although I'm not sure if this has any significance.

Any Ideas?

Regards
Andy Hirst

The first step would be to obtain a memory checking program to check the ram,
windows can help with that free,as i think it may be your problem.

Installing adobe acrobat pro 6 to windows 7

This is an old version of Acrobat that was written for NT, Win2K and XP. Due to changes in the OS, it's hard to get the program to install in Windows 7.

Which version of Win7 do you have? (32-bit or 64-bit and Home Premium, Pro or one of the other variants) Since you indicated this under the Dell Dimension E521 with 1 GB of memory, I'll guess Win7 Pro 64-bit. (This uses the 64 bit CPU) You can check by clicking Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System. If the Windows version ends with x64, it is the 64-bit version. Otherwise, you have the 32-bit version.

Under the 64-bit OS, you need one of the following workarounds: a second computer, a dual boot computer or a virtual computer running an older version of Windows. If your hardware supports virtualization, this might be a good bet if you can add memory to computer. With Win7 Pro or Ultimate, you can download and install Virtual PC and XP mode from Microsoft and run XP for free. Then install Acrobat in XP mode as if it were your only machine. (Note: the Virtual PC requires a share of your total memory and doesn't give it back to the main computer while it is running.)

The other methods listed require a licensed version of an older Windows OS.

If you have the 32-bit version of Windows 7, you can try the compatibility mode. Right click on the installer and choose Properties. In the compatibility tab, check always run in the compatibility mode and select an older version of Windows. Then click Apply to save the changes and then click OK. Then right click again and choose Run As Administrator. You may have to repeat the compatibility mode changes for the program itself.

You may want to consider upgrading to a Windows 7 compatible version of Acrobat. The current version is Version X.

I hope this helps.

Computer won't start; hard drive failure?

What version of Windows is that?
There are: Win XP Home, XP Media center, XP Professional... First time i hear 2002.
Best think for you to do is to backup your files and reformat your drive.
Because you can't access Windows safely, you should take your hdd to another PC.
I suspect on : MS Windows bug or hard drive error.

Would like to know if there is a way to install GIga Pocket without wiping wIndows Professional XP3 clean just to install Windows Xp Home Media Edition

XP Home Media Edition is technically a customized version of XP Pro. If you want to install the two versions side by side, you'll need to Dual Boot the computer, which requires changing the partition. There are various utilities out there that can do this, but it may end up causing problems for the older version of Windows. Do some research on setting up dual booting and decide if you're comfortable going that route. If not, consider having a technical friend or professional doing it for you.

1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type this in the run box: c:\Windows\System32\oeminfo.ini
Something like this should open in notebook:
[Version]
Microsoft Windows Whistler Edition
WinVer=5.01
[General]
Manufacturer=vpr Matrix ™
Model=Personal Computer
SupportURL=http://matrixsupport.net
LocalFile=c:\matrixsupport\file.html
[Support Information]
Line1=”Visit us online or call our toll-free Customer Support number 24/7!”
Line2=”http://www.vprmatrix.com”
Line3=”cb_transparent_l.gifus.gifspace.gifspace.gifarrow.gifspace.gifspace.gifspace.gifspace.gifspace.gifspace.gifspace.gif(800)332-4800cb_transparent_r.gif in the USA and Canada.”
Line4=”"
Although I wouldn’t play with anything under the version section, you can edit the information in the other sections. You can edit anything to the right of the = sign.
Save it before you exit notepad and you’ll be set.
You can also edit the bitmap that will be displayed on this screen by changing this file:
c:\Windows\System32\oemlogo.bmp
It must be 172 X 172 pixels in size.

If you’re new Toshiba laptop is running windows vista, the answer is yes. You will need to go to www.hp.com and click on the support tab. This will allow you to type in your model number of you printer so you can download the latest drivers for the printer. After you type in you model number and click search, the website will ask you what version of windows you are running. The options cover both Vista and windows XP. Just pick and you will be able to download the driver with software or just the driver.
