Question about PC Desktops
Hi charles. It sounds like a Windows error and not the drives so no jumpers or firmware must be changed/flashed.
Instead try to go to device manager and unistall all the CD Devices. Then you have two options. Reboot and the system automatically installs the drives again.
Alternatively you can scan for hardware changes in the device manager immediately after you unistalled the devices.
Hope this helps.

Please give a look at the manual here http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00167044.pdf
Page 17 will tell you what type of CD and DVD you can use.
If you are trying to use a DVD-RW or DVD-R it will not work and it will produce the descibed effect.
Can you please try with a DVD+R and see if it works? If it doesn't work with a + means that the optical drive has some problem and need to be replaced.
Let me know if you need more help.
