Hello again, BCPSBT. I’m sorry, but I’m just a little confused because neither the Part List nor the Owner’s Manuals go into any detail about changing/replacing the lubrication grease in your mixer, so I’m not sure what you are referring to when you say your system ‘times out’ when you get to page 10 when you attempt to download it?
The Parts List manual is only 8 pages. Are you perhaps attempting to download the Owner Instruction and Recipe manual instead, which is much longer?
The reason you need the Parts List Manual K45SSWH-0.pdf (2730.37 KB) is to see the ‘exploded views’ which will aid you in the disassembly and reassembly of your mixer. The best instructions for regreasing you mixer are from these two websites:

I’m sorry I don’t have more specific step by step instructions to offer you. Sometimes you have to step out in faith and trust that you can actually accomplish the work yourself.
I wish you good luck in completing your ‘oil’ change.
Good luck and have fun. I hope this provides a little more clarification. Howard, Burke, VA

My KitchenAid, model K5-A is running about 50% slower than it did when it was new. It just started doing that today. It still allows variable speeds but they're all 50% slower on any speeds selected. Thank you!

I have a 40 year old Kitchen Aid mixer, Division/Hobart. I just finished with some dough and the mixer sound like it was growling,slowed down, turned it off, does not work now

There can only be three things:
1. Brushes needs to replaced;
2. Rotor is used out;
3. wheels can be use out;

Open machine and look at these three components. First one is easy fix, you take one out and replace it with another, others two are cul de sac, I am afraid.

Where can I get the grease for my Kitchen aid stand mixer?

The grease is food grade grease and Kitchen Aid supply it as a spare part so depending on where you live either from themselves or an Authorised Service Agent. If you are in New Zealand then I can supply.

Oil leaking. Called KitchenAid, they said this was normal, and to run the mixer with paddle on at a speed of 10 for 2-3 minutes. She also said that the oil was not toxic! I think the high speed running...

Kitchen Aid is 100% correct. The cause of the problem is age and lack of regular use, the oils in the gearbox grease separate from the solids over time and the oil then leaks out at the planetary and sometimes where the 2 case halves join under the silver trim band.
If you are up for a small job knock the chrome trim ring around the planetary off and clean it out and wipe around the area it covers. It is called a drip ring for good reason, you may find it full of oil.
The grease Kitchen Aid used in their mixers is Food Grade and it's harmless.

What kind of grease can be used on a stand mixer after replacing a stripped worm gear? model:K45SS

Food grade grease is what Kitchen Aid put into the gearbox originally. They do supply it as a spare part if you cannot find it as a non Kitchen Aid part.

My mixer is about 15 years old works well except

Hi BCPSBT. You say your mixer growls at slow speed. It could be that it’s time for an oil (lubrication) change. KA packs your mixer’s transmission with enough grease to ‘last a lifetime’, but depending on the age (in this case a middle-age appliance) and usage (you don’t indicate) of your mixer the grease breaks down into its constituent parts: oil and additives. Over time, the additives will thicken and provide less lubrication to the transmission gears and this is probably what is occurring now.
If you are DITY type person, feel adventurous, and your mixer is not under warranty you can troubleshoot it yourself. Be sure you have the Parts List manual on hand. If you are lacking one, you can download it from the KA website http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home.
Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals & Guides> and select “Consumer” for User Type, then enter the 6 character Model Number, in your case use K45SSW select Parts List (1) and then check to see it this matches your mixer model.
Turn to pages 4 & 5 for the disassembly and reassembly of your mixer, along with all the parts. For starters, you should consider reordering the gasket (Illus. No 19) and O-ring (Illus. No 34). With the mixer apart and transmission exposed, you should be able to confirm how well the lubrication grease is distributed and doing its job. Also, once apart you can check for any other unseemly wear and tear on the gears, including the planetary and agitator shaft gears.
When you re-grease the gears and assemblies, you should use a food-grade grease that you can order online (although I’ve seen automotive bearing grease used too – your call).
As far as parts go, here are five potential online vendors in no particular order: RepairClinic.com; mendingshed.com; searspartsdirect.com; partstore.com and Grainger.com (for grease). Prices can vary widely between vendors, so do some comparison shopping.
Finally, here are some links to several excellent websites that detail the disassembling/reassembly of a KA Mixer.
Between these three websites, their excellent pictures, descriptions, and your Parts List manual, you should now be able to completely disassemble and reassemble your mixer, should you decide to go that route.
Good luck and have fun. I hope this helps. Howard, Burke, VA

Turned over and oil leaked out. Not sure how to replace and with what type of oil. Thank you.

There should be no oil. It is probably grease that has leaked due to a gasket not sealed tight. Go to Mendingshed.com and if you type in Kitchen Aid Mixer you can find a manual that shows what type of grease.

Food made with KitchenAid Stand mixer tastes like grease

The likelyhood of grease coming from the mixer is extremely small. As long as the beater & bowl were washed first and the shortening you used was fresh, there shouldn't be a grease taste.

Leaking oil at the base

A TV show "How it is made" was in the Kitchen Aid factory and they used a thick grease and no oil in the mixer. Does your unit get hot? Maybe its melting the grease (dark brown)..
