Hi there SmartAlec from NelsonVacuums.com.au here. This is a bit of a tricky one on your first go so be gentle. Basically what you have to do is lift off the switch cover to reveal the switch proper. If you are standing behind the machine as if you were about to use it the switch cover will be on the right side of the vacuum. The switch cover has 1 protrusion on its left hand side (closest to the machine body) which has to be squeezed as you lift the cover up. Use a thin flat blade screwdrive or a pointy knife (the slimmer the better) to slide down the side of the cover and push the cover to your right (to outside of machine) as you lift or pry the cover up. I found my first one very difficult and came close to totally ruining the switch cover however as soon as you see the cover out you knoww exactly where to push and your next one is a 10 second job.
With the cover off you will need to undo the screw holding the cord assembly in place it is a torx type driver. Once the screw is out just pull the whole piece straight up and you will be able to see all the wiring and switch it is a very basic job to shorten the cord 8 inches or so and reterminate.
NB. This is an electrical component do not play with this unless you are suitably trained or qualified as you will put yourself or the next user at risk of electrocution.
Hope this helps
Happy Vacuuming

Dyson dc04

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

Like most Dyson vacuums, DC04 is equipped with a thermal cutout, which will shut the vacuum off for protection if it starts to overheat. This could be due to a blockage - the pre-filter may also need a wash. It should automatically reset after it's had at least 2 hours to cool down. You can prevent this from reoccurring following the steps below.

To wash the pre-filter, use cold water without detergent, as shown in the video below. Allow at least 12 hours for both parts of the filter to dry completely before replacing it.

To check the vacuum for blockages, just follow the steps shown in our online Support guide: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc04/dc04-standard/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-won-t-switch-on-or-cuts-out/machine-won-t-switch-on-or-cuts-out/my-machine-cut-out-whilst-i-was-using-it/how-to-wash-filters/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual-dc04/wand-suction

If you'd like further advice after giving these checks a try, please give our experts a call directly on 0800 298 0298. We're available from 8am-8pm from Monday to Friday, and 8am-6pm on weekends. Calls are free from UK landlines.

No suction on floors but OK on hose

Hi there,

If your DC04 picks up as normal through the wand, but not through the cleaner head, this may be due to a blockage in the machine. The filter may also need a wash. To locate and remove any blockages, please follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://support.dyson.co.uk/support/dc04/dc04-brush-control/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/wand-suction

In normal use, the filter should be washed at least once every 3-6 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for it to dry completely before replacing it.

This should resolve the issue, but if you'd like further assistance or advice, please call us on 0800 298 0298 - our Helpline is available from 7am until 10pm, 7 days a week.

Best wishes,

Jack

The power just cut out on my purple & green dyson

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC04 Absolute. If the cleaner cut out during use, the thermal cutout switch may have shut the cleaner off because it was overheating. It would be a good idea to wash the filter, and to check the airways for blockages. The easiest way to do this is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/help.asp?article=51&product=DC04-PL-ABS

By washing the filters and clearing any obstructions, you should resolve your issue. However, if you're still concerned, please get in touch with us directly so one of our experts can run through some troubleshooting checks over the phone with you. You can call us free on 08002980298 - our Helpline is open from 7am until 10pm, 7 days a week.

Kind regards,

Jack

Dyson DC04

If it is at the on/off switch, you can carefully prise the yellow button out to reveal a torx headed screw. Remove the screw then the housing for the switch can be pulled out which should reveal your loose wire.
