hi i have a sony vaio vgn-fz18g it has a matshita bd-mlt uj-220v ata device. i played one dvd in it, windows vista did an update and my laptop does not recognise dvd's or blue ray discs, it recognises cd's, so i now have an expensive cd player. please can anyone help me i have been trying for over 3 months to try and solve this problem by removing upper and lower filters, removing driver and re-installing, updating driver the only thing in device manager that shows is a cd drive nothing else.
as with any pc related dvd drive. they,re usually subject to between 3-5 user changes. if they,ve been used up, then theres no chance to reset or change them, but to purchase a new drive.
There are alternatives, such as locating a program like DVD Region and CSS free, which will allow your drive to play any region Disk.
Hi - had the same thing. Hardware reset fixed the problem. Hold the power button for more than 10 seconds, and everything goes back to normal. And no, it's not in the manuals or on the toshiba web site.
