The disk I have here, does something similar.. long introduction of black and the sound starts. Then the movie begins. Are you sure it stops completely and has no sound?
Try playing it in your PC with the appropriate DVD software installed. If it fails return it for replacement.
please rate my help++++Thanks for using FIXYA
Greetings and thank you for the reply and returned assistance. Future Proof? I don't think any product can guarantee that. We are members of a throw away society unfortunately Progress is inevitable and Greed dominates the electronics market. Example.. the average life of a new TV plasma or Rear Proj is 18 months 2 years max. Then it requires $1000 spent on it to fix what should never have died in the first place. I have an old SANYO TV that is 40 years old has only ever been repaired once ($50) and now has a set top box. I am sure this old technology will still be giving satisfaction long after the 60 inch Sony has died
cheers

Thanks nettiser. I rang Samsung product help AUST about this after I posted. I said I was aware there was a software update needed for blueray but thought the problem was limited to that. SAMSUNG told me that there will also be software updates issued in the next week for DVD as well. So this issue may not just be limited to Samsung bluray only.
Samsung told me it was something to do with new "codec" or "codex" in the Avatar dvd / bluray discs - sorry I'm not a tech.
Samsung Aust will list the updates oon its website under each product. You will need to download, extract zipfile, burn a cd and then play it in your dvd player to update.
So much for future proofing...
