Hi Lee. The tv is a KINECS. Model no. KIN4709UCPB-FHD. Yes, I am trying to play through the PS3. And I havnt seen an option yet to change resolution. I have changed a couple of settings on the PS3. HDMI - ON etc but nothing seems to change. I'm sure its something very simple, thats why I feel very stupid right now, And YES, i'm not very electronically minded, MANY THANKS, Nic.

What is the model of the tv? Are you playing the movie through your ps3? Have you tried hooking it up with component and seeing if you can get a higher resolution? Once I have more information I can assist you further.
Thank you,
Lee

make sure ur not using both the av cable and the hdmi on some models it causes conflict although they are on different inputs. also did you try using a blu ray player or another ps3 on that hdmi port using the same cables or different cables? if another equipment work/don't work u can at least start to narrow down your problem..

When the display is via HDMI Games won't load?

is your screen a full hd one ?
if not, verify your resolution settings in the ps3 system settings ; you may experience problems if you allow you system to run in a resolution not supported by your TV .

PS3 wont go 1080i/720p

I don't think there is a way to set your resolution manually, bro. They do it all by auto. If I may make a suggestion... Turn off both the TV & PS3. Unplug your HDMI, then make sure both your TV & PS3 are turned ON. Now re-connect your HDMI. A TV tech once told me that these units "communicate" through the HDMI. This can only occure whilst they're up & running. This may help get you going on to 1080i.
p.s. PS3 games only output 720p, max! This isn't always the case for Blu Ray movies, but it is for games. Good luck!

42LG50 TV - Intermittant sound problems with blu-ray HDMI input

You say this doesn't happen on regular cable or when playing a regular DVD. Hmm. Is this Blu-Ray player connected by simplink? HDMI is a bi-directional format cable, so  there are cases in setups where your tv can send commands to your blu-ray player and vice versa. It could be a problem with your blu-ray player that it is sending for some odd reason a mute command to your tv. Or is processing a command that your TV interprets to be a mute command when playing blu-rays. Because if it was the TV itself chances are you'd see this when watching a normal DVD or on cable as well. Since you say you're not, it leads me to believe the issue lies with the blu-ray player itself.

Games on Full HD

if you have a full hdtv then providing you set the playstation up in the settings menu to 1080p and use a hdmi cable then everything you play will be in hd (except ps1 and 2 games) but you can select to upscale these. all blu rays and ps3 games will be in full hd.

Full HD picture NO SOUND from ps3 to lg42hd using HDMI

Maybe your TV is not made for HD from the Sony Console. Try calling Sony Customer support, then your TV's brand Customer support. That will tell you if your TV Model allows the HD from the PS3. Remember though, PS3 Uses Blu-Ray. So you need Blu-Ray for your TV. Hope this helped.

Change the frame rate on your tv to 60hd, that should solve it. Basically, your tv might be set to theater mode which is playing 24hd..

You may want to try a good, Monster Cable, HDMI cable. Visit this page: http://www.monstercable.com/HDMI/advancedhdmi.asp
If you have a standard HDMI cable, it will not support 1080P.

So this is one of the few times that I will recommend spending the money for a better cable.
The better cable improves picture color quality, from 8 bit to 12 bit and it improves audio quality.
