If remote has the aspect button it will do this depending on signals--some boxes preset the aspect for the signal they are outing to your TV---4x3 for example may not be able to be switched to full or 16x9.
If you are referring to that you are unable to select the the 1080p setting in the TV menu, first try changing the aspect ratio in the TV Menu. If that does not do it, you have to change the display setting ion your device, if you can not or it does not have 1080p the problem is that resolution is unsupported by your device
Sorry aspect ratio or P.size it more of an original remote functions. Can't used a substitute remote for this functions.Try website like Remotes.com to buy an original remote.
you can set the aspect on either remote. the best thing to do is set the proper aspect on the tv remote for regular (sd) channels, and then again for hd channels. the tv should remember these aspect settings and revert to them when you switch back and forth from sd to hd. if you have satelite, there is usually another aspect on there you can change depending on the program, but i usually recommend leaving it alone. if you are on an hd channel with side bars, switch to the sd version instead of changing aspect so you dont have to keep flipping it back and forth.
In windows, you can't change the aspect ratio itself. You just need to change the resolution in the windows display properties to one that has the right ratio, like 1440x900 for example. In many cases, if you cannot get this resolution on the slider, its because your monitor has no drivers installed and windows limits it to "safe" resolutions. In which case, you need to either install the drivers for the monitor either from the CD that came with it, or by downloading it from the company website. If you cannot find it at all, you can also use a Microsoft Generic driver that is included in windows, in which case it usually tells you what resolution the driver you are putting in supports, it's written in the driver name.
I bet you are using a cable box or satelite receiver. If so check for aspect buttons on the remote that control these devices. I know comcast says "HD Zooom".
