Question about HP Compaq nc6000 Notebook
My Compaq HP NC6000 has random colored lines that follow the cursor on the screen. Eventually the whole display is not viewable
Most likely your video card is going south, that is a common problem among HP (DV5000, 6000) and Compaq (5000, 6000) the video card is not getting enough fresh air or is getting too hot, after a while it will just stop working and you would be able to hear but not see Windows.
One technique to fix this problem (is not the best) is to disassemble the laptop all the way to the mother board, isolate components with foil and use a heat gun (some people uses hair driers) and blow in to the video card for about 4 min. that will help some of the card components to stick together again. after you finish doing this put it together and test.
like I said before is not the best option because it will work for a few days maybe weeks and then it will die again plus you can damage other components this is common in 3rd world countries and cheap repair shops.
the other option is to replace the video card most likely ATI right? you have to take the laptop to a repair shop and ask if they have a rework station and a person who knows how to use it. ask if they can check and if needed replace video card some places would charge you about 150 to 250 depends on work quality that would last longer.
