Try to switch display output by pressing 'Fn' key with 'F4' or 'F5' key which has screen picture on it. Try it 2 or three times.
If it not works, then try it in windows, right click on desktop and in context menu see whether any display output option -> to monitor or to notebook. Click on to Notebook.
If still problem, you have to contact your vendor.

Blank monitor

Connect an external monitor on your computer. If you saw windows coming up on external monitor, there's a need for you to send the computer to the nearest service center to get the graphics cards and LCD checked. If it will still give you black screen upon boot up, just re-install Windows.

HP notebook does not boot

Try plugging the external VGA adapter to an external monitor. If you see your desktop or post boot on the external then most likely the lcd screen is bad or you may get lucky and it just be the "backlight tude" Either way I would replace the lcd screen with a new one if the backlight is already shot. You can buy a new screen for around $99 and they are fairly easy to install. Again confirm you have picture to an external monitor b4 you buy a new screen.

If you get the boot image on your screen then you screen is working correctly unless there's something that you not explaining. You can try an ext. monitor if you think it is something related to your LCD screen not woring during boot up. If the ext monitor not showing your laptop to boot then you have problem with your OS and may need to get it repaired or restored.

Dropped and screen went black.still turns on but the screen doesn't work

Attach and external monitor and boot the machine. If you don't have one, ask around your friends and family... someone has a monitor.

If you can see stuff on the monitor when it boots, but when you boot with no monotor the laptop screen is blank, then you most likely have a dead lcd panel on the notebook. It would need to be replaced.

If the external monitor also shows nothing during boot then you likely have larger problems.

External montior is blank

Are you sure the laptop is powering up?
Do you hear the laptop boot up and the hard drive spinning and the power LED is on when you connected the external monitor?
The monitor must be powered up before the laptop for the video info to switch video port automatically.
If the external monitor is blank then you can't make it work, your video card is faulty and it is not possible to replace as it is built-in on the motherboard. You could replace the motherboard but this may not be a cost effective solution,

It appears to be booting but only displays awhite colour

Try to attach an external monitor to see if it is really booting up. And if it does boot up with the external monitor, problem is with the lcd... you may want to reseat the lcd cables inside. And if all else fails run diagnostics to see if lcd needs to be replaced. Could also be a software or OS issue that is why booting it up on an external monitor will help isolate the issue to check if there's an error message that will come up.

Thanks and good luck! =)

Blank screen

I think your LCD is stuffed is it under warranty do you know BUT if the screen is cracked they wont replace it typical HP. To get your external monitor running hold down the function key and the blue monitor looking key similtaneously normally on compaq its the F4 key but look around your keyboard (looks like a monitor) and is blue letters.
