To fix this you will need to locate a copy of a Windows XP CD. Sometimes, Dell will include these with new computers, but they do not always.....that said....

  1. Start the computer by using your Windows XP CD. Press any key to boot from the CD.
  2. After the setup files are finished loading press R to repair using the Recovery Console.
  3. When you are in the Recovery Console, select the installation to log on to (usually number 1), and then press ENTER.
  4. Login to the Administrator account by typing the password (if any) for this account, and then press ENTER.
  5. At the Recovery Console command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

expand <cd-drive>:\i386\ntoskrnl.ex_ <hd-drive>:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe Note In the command, the <cd-drive> placeholder represents the drive letter of your CD drive (typically D:), and the <hd-drive> placeholder represents the drive letter of the hard disk on which windows is installed (typically C:).
  6. If you receive a prompt to overwrite the file, press Y.
  7. Type exit, and press ENTER at the command prompt.

Reinstall windows root system 32 hal.dll

Do a start up repair.

Insert your Windows Operating System disc in the DVD. Reboot your computer and press any key when you see the phrase "Press Any Key to Boot in CD".

Select the start up repair and it should work after the loading process.

I hope this helps.

Missing windows root system32\hal.dll

Hi
There are few different ways that the "missing or corrupt hal.dll" error may present itself, with the first listing being the most common

Use the following links
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000490.htm
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/missinghaldll.htm

Note: if the repair is not successful then you would have to redo the entire OS. This would mean data loss on the computer.

Thanks for using Fixya

<windows root>\system32\hal.dll

Hi,

the problem is in the boot.ini
you need to insert the XP installation CD and start the recover console.
Type the following commands:

del C:boot.ini
bootcfg /rebuild fixboot

if you can't delete the file just try this command before:

attrib -H -R -S C:boot.ini

Without cd rom how shld i install system32hal.dll file..

Install the file using USB drive such as pendrive.

Visit the below link for more information on hal.dll missing or corrupt:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314477

Try the steps in method 1.

For method 2, we need to use Windows XP CD, try to use external DVD drive and after connecting the external drive, you can reinstall the file or follow the other steps to resolve the issue.
