Question about Sony Walkman MZ-R50 Personal MiniDisc Player

1 Answer

My sony cd player and minidisc recorder will not record. The levels look like it is recording but we get nothing. I am using an unprotected md; I have unplugged and tried resetting; I have tried other discs. We can play a previously recorded disc.

You did not even read my problem. It is not a sony walkman at all. I am not paying you for this.

HELLO,If the discs work on another player then your player has most likely a faulty reader.
the problem seems in thermal head that is not working in
recording and should be replaced. It is necessary part of minidisc
mechanism and works during recording only. In playback only laser lens
work but in recording thermal head and optical lens both work.

    THANKS FOR USING FIXYA,

    TAKE CARE.

Not recording anymore

After you press the 'record' button the Minidisc unit is still in "pause mode" - you can hear the music and see the meters move, but notice that the time isn't moving until you press "Play" - then it will start recording. Is the time changing when you go to play it back? You might have left the MD in 'pause' perhaps?

Mini dics play okay but cannot seem to adjust recording level isn't picking up anything from source ie-cd's or vinyl. Can you help?

Obviously you first need to check that your connections are 'out' of the source and 'in' to your MD recorder. On most Sony's you press the menu button until 'REC LEVEL' appears in the display. Simply adjust with the AMS wheel to desired level. Note that when recording 'digitally' the record level is automatically set. Good luck.

Minidisk systems encode music diffferently than CD's do. The instruction manual for your model can be found at http://www.minidisc.org/sony_mdse10_manual.pdf you will need to reference page 18 for instructions and trouble shooting.

Can a MDS JE330 play minidiscs recorded by a "hi md" player? most md-players can not.

No. Only Hi-MD players/recorders can play Hi-MD's. They're a later and totally different technical specification. The discs may look superficially similar but it's like trying to play a Blu-Ray disc on a CD player.

I have a sony mz r500 minidisk. can i upload songs to computer, after I use it to record to minidisk?

I don't think this is designated a "Net-MD" - is it? If so, by using the proprietary software (Sonic Stage), recordings can be transferred from the computer via USB to the MD unit - and back again.

You won't be able to "transfer" using a USB cable if the recordings didn't originate via Sonic stage. But you can record them in real time using Cool Edit, Adobe Audition or Audacity (free proggie!). This is the only way of transferring music from any non-USB equipped MD unit, or any MD unit that made the recordings with a mic or using line-in.

Problem of minidisk can't show at my pc

this is to scope_gurung, in my experience, what i did was i downloaded the song from a standard CD walkman. I first wrote all the song in order on a sheet of paper then i connected a standard stereo jack to both my MD and to my standard CD player. You have to first check if your MD is detecting the CD player in its screen and if it does, press play on the CD player and pause it and as for your MD, press record and pause it too then >>>>after you have done all of these, you have to release the pause on both palyers at the same time>>>>> and whoala !!!! your MD is already recording..... You can edit your recordings later as it is playing by using your menu button. I hope i was of help. Good Day !!!!
