Question about IBM ThinkPad R50p Notebook

1 Answer

R50P 1832-29U My daughter (at college in New York, not in town) has dropped the laptop and the case is broken. Same for the LCD display. The hard drive is probably OK. Where could she get a replacement unit so that she can use the old HDD. It has a large number of files which she needs ASAP. Thanks,

Dear Peter ,
In this case , you should have to contact any IBM Authorised Service centre , they can fix this Notebook, and another way is , just replaced notebook with any new model and placed your old hard drive in External casing , which is easly available in all Computer store , you just purchase one and put your older hard drive in to this case and you can use your data .

Cheerup and Be Happy always.

Start spreading the news, I'm leaving today
I want to be a part of it, New York, New York
These vagabond shoes, are longing to stray
Right through the very heart of it, New York, New York

I want to wake up in a city, that doesn't sleep
And find I'm king of the hill, top of the heap

These little town blues, are melting away
I'm gonna make a brand new start of it, in old New York
If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere
It's up to you, New York, New York

My daughter dropped her laptop now it wont turn on and keeps saying theres a hard drive prpoblem

Well, either the hard drive inside has come loose from it connector, in which case opening the access door on the back and re-seating the connector will solve your problem, OR, the impact from the dropping has resulting in hard drive crash in which case you need a new hard drive.

Laptop ibm t60 screen white, but works fine with external lcd screen connected by VGA cable

Hi,

Check your laptop's LCD connections. One of the below items may need replacement or you may need to just reinsert them, might be loose.

- LCD cable
- LCD inverter
- LCD itself

NOTE: Most often, the LCD inverter is the culprit.

Hope this helps.

I think my compaq mini was dropped now my screen is red and flick

I really don't know if was dropped or it was been press hard. But the problem is the LCD of your laptop. I don't know also how much it would cost you to replace the LCD. Because here in my country LCD is expensive its like you bought another mini.
But like I've said, the problem is the LCD. Now if in case it was dropped, check if the hard disk is still good. If not you need also to replace that. Of course replacing hard drive means new installation of all your softwares.

My daughter dropped my laptop and know the screen is just black the lights turn on but the screen is just black

Most likely the impact from the drop has broken the CCFL bulb that illuminates your display. These bulbs are built into the displays and run along the bottom of the display in a channel. They are not designed to withstand impacts and break very easily. Your screen most likly needs to replaced. Just to make though, look very carefully at the screen and try to shine a flashlight at the bottom of the screen angled upward. Can you see the desktop faintly on the panel? If you can barely make out the desktop or anything for that matter, then the screen itself is good but the bulb is in fact broken or the plug attaching the inverter to the screen has come dislodged from the impact. At any rate, the screen bezel has to come off and the lcd panel removed to check it thoroughly.

Can Dell Inspiron 2200 screen be replaced/repaired? How costly?

If the screen is cracked, that can range from $200 and up. If the screen is not cracked and the image is garbled or scramble, then the Price of repair would be at least as much. Laptops are expensive to repair. Bear in mind, They are mass produced, not mass repaired. In my opinion, your money might be better invested in a newer machine.

Camera Screen

The following procedure works on the V603. It uses the same LCD screen as the V803 & V1003.

It would appear you have a damaged LCD screen. The same problem happened to my daughter's V803. The camera will take pictures fine but you will only be able to see them if you download them onto a PC. A replacement screen can be easily ordered and replaced. Call Eastman Kodak. Their parts department can be reached at (800) 431-7278 ext 3. Tell them the model number of your camera and tell them you want to order a LCD screen for it. The cost of the new screen is $31.00 + $15.00 shipping. Don't let them talk you into sending it back for repair. You are looking at a repair bill over $80.00. To replace the screen, remove all of the small philips head screws that are in the chrome band that runs around the center ridge of the camera. After removing the screws, you will be able to separate the rear half of the camera from the front half. The LCD screen is pressed into a rubber gasket in the rear half of the camera. You will see that there is a small, flat orange ribbon cable that connects the old LCD screen to a black connector on the camera's motherboard. Using a VERY small flat blade screw driver, pry up the top tab on black connector. This will unlock the connector and allow you to remove the flat ribbon cable from the black connector. Remember the orientation of the old screen and its cable, as you will want to replaced the new screen and cable exactly the way the original was installed. Using the same small flat blade screw driver, pry out the old display. Install the new display into the rubber gasket into the back half of the camera. Insert the ribbon cable into the mother board's black connector and press down on the panel to lock the cable into place. Lay the rear half of the camera face down on the table (rear buttons facing down) and place the front half of the camera over top of the rear half. This will allow you to put the camera back together and help prevent the new LCD screen from falling back out. The LCD screen has pads attached to the surface behind it. When you reinstall the front half of the camera, those pads help hold the LCD screen in place with pressure from the motherboard. Replace all of the screws. If you did it correctly, the camera will operate like new. Last word of advice. Buy a padded hard shell case for this camera. These cameras are well known for LCD screen failures due to shocks and drops.

Good Luck!
