It is very frail if you bump the heater hard while it is hot or cold you can crack it. If you have any water leak inside the heater or a condensation problem that drips water on it while it is hot this will break it every time.

Maytag oven will not heat, no gas flow. Broiler works, clock and timer works.

Hi,

You may even see the orange "glow plug" (called a hot surface igniter) glowing orange and so assume that it's OK. Not necessarily!! You have to measure the current/amp drawn by the igniter and compare it to this repair sheet before you can say it's OK or not. The gas valve has a bi-metal that open when a certain amount of current flows through it to heat it up. The igniter is wired in series with the gas valve. As the igniter gets older or weaker, it's resistance increases to the point where not enough current is flowing to the gas valve bimetal to open it up. As a result, the gas valve never opens up. BTW, a common symptom of the early stages of this problem is erratic temperature control in the oven due to delayed firing of the bake burner while cooking.

The hot surface igniter will not come on - check igniter with a ohm meter, you should have continuity through the glow bar, the glow bar can also crack = new igniter time. The glow bar comes on but the main burner will not light - you should have an amp probe to check properly, but often this is a hot surface igniter problem. The hot surface igniter often looses it's ability to get hot enough to open the gas safety valve. The safety valve can fail, but most times it is just a bad hot surface igniter. The hot surface igniter can also quit part way through cooking , in other words the oven may cycle a couple of times and then it just sits there with the red glow from the igniter. See this service sheet for the proper way and amp readings for the hot surface igniter system. Hot surface igniters do weaken and will eventually generate less heat than they normally could. When this happens they can still allow marginally correct current to flow to the oven gas valve for it to open but not get quite hot enough to ignite the gas burner immediately. When this happens, gas released into the oven can sometimes build up to the point where when finally ignited, the amount of gas lit can cause a small explosion inside the oven or cause an odor of gas with out the oven working. Yes, your glow bar igniter can glow orange-red and still be bad!! How a common gas valve works - click here.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Goodman furnace w/ propane conversion: Last March our Goodman GHP100 stopped blowing hot air. Service man came while I was at work and told my wife the fuse had blown. The part she showed me was the...

the 271n is a Trane round igniter and the 271nm is a Goodman flat igniter other than the shape and size there is no difference either will work fine allot of time if you touch the igniter surface with your fingers the oil of your skin will make them burn out faster (like a halogen light bulb) I would keep one around in case of emergencies but it's not something you should have to change annually they do break and burn out but if it glows and after you replace it and the furnace works fine there probably isn't another problem. You should be fine.

Hope this helps dont forget to rate me.............

Turn up t-stat, circ fan runs, hot surface igniter glows burner lights blows warm for a short time and then goes cold, flashes 1 flash, ignition problem, no flame when acting up. model# DGAA070BDTB.

The thermocouple lets the control know the flame is burning, and if it doesn't sense flame it shuts off just what you describe. Sounds as though you need to replace the thermocouple.

Stalls when hot

That sounds like a malfunction with the ignition module inside of the distributor, and you can remove the ignition module and have it tested for free at most auto part stores.

If you do purchase a new ignition module be sure that it does come with a silicone grease or a die-electric compound because it is a heat sink2_bing.gif and the ignition module will burn up without it.

To install the new ignition module first clean out the mounting surface inside of the distributor. Then completely coat the metal contact surface under the ignition module with the silicone grease or die-electric compound and do not leave any of the metal contact surface of the ignition module un-coated with the silicone grease or die-electric compound, and be very careful not to over-tighten the ignition module.

I have a R-150. starts runs and fames out in 30 seconds and continues to blow fuel for about 20 to 30 seconds and then I assume flame sensor shuts it down. Im thinking ignition coil. Any ideas. Thanx

What usually causes that is the ignition component is not hot enough to sustain a hot enough temperature to keep the fuel burning some have a spark ignition some have a hot surface ignition, try replacing it and it should work fine.

Pilot Light Wont Light

Take off the top cover plate inside the oven. Now with the door open turn the oven on does the hot surface glow? If it doesn't glow then you have a bad igniter and needs to be replaced. What ever you do don't touch the surface of the new igniter human oil will shorten the life of the igniter. now if the hot surface glows then the gas valve is bad and need to be replaced. I'm betting it's the hot surface.

Bosch HGS442UC Gas Oven won't light

Usually when an oven won't bake, it's because the bake igniter is weak or burned out. The igniter is a small, round or rectangular device, that's about 1 inch by 4 to 8 inches. It's near the burner itself.

The burner is the tube-type device the gas flows through before it's ignited. It has many small holes on the sides to let the gas, when ignited, form a long, low flame. If the igniter is weak, if it glows red but doesn't get hot enough, or if it's burned out, the gas doesn't flow to the burner and the burner won't ignite. If this is the problem, you may need to replace either the igniter or the gas safety valve. Usually the igniter is to blame.

Other causes Other reasons that your oven may not bake are:

  • The clock settings are incorrect (if you have timed baking or a self-cleaning oven).

  • The thermostat is defective.

  • The safety valve that prevents accidental gas flow is defective.

  • The selector switch is defective.
if this helps please vote me a fix ya
