Problem to add ymail/yahoo account in Thunderbird

If you have a standard Yahoo! account (US), that does not allow direct access from email programs such as Thunderbird. (Yahoo does not provide the standard mail protocols -- POP3, SMTP, IMAP - which are needed.)

Yahoo does offer that access for its premium "Yahoo! Mail Plus" account. There is an annual fee of $19.99 for that service. See details at http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/classic/mailplus/overview/

However, there are some free work-arounds which will allow access to a regular Yahoo Mail account via Thunderbird

(1) WebMail - http://webmail.mozdev.org/
This is a free Thunderbird extension, which provides access to various webmail programs (including Yahoo). You'll need to download and install both the basic extension and the Yahoo plug-in; then follow the instructions to configure them for your Yahoo account. See details at

(2) YPOPs! - http://ypopsemail.com/
This is a POP3 gateway, which allows downloading Yahoo Mail into any standard email client (such as Thunderbird). You'll need to configure both the Yahoo settings in Thunderbird and the YPOPs program, so that they will work together.
See articles at:
http://ypopsemail.com/documentation/37-email-configuration/60-thunderbird
http://opensourcearticles.com/thunderbird_15/english/part_10

Hope that's helpful.

Hi

You have to check each settings that applies to yahoo mail server and compare it with the working account. You can also use windows live mail, you can download it from microsoft.com. Works like outlook express.

Hope this helps

I have just installed windows 7 and i lost my email ,how do i get it back

I assume you are referring to a desktop email program such as Outlook Express that was part of XP or Windows Mail which came with Vista. In Windows 7 there is no desktop email program included in the OS and you cannot get Windows Mail back. But, all is not lost. You have choices. You can download and install Windows Live Mail which is very similar to Windows Mail. http://download.live.com/wlmail Or you can choose Thunderbird which is a fantastic free desktop email program. http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/ The choice is yours.

I can receive but not send e-mail using cox.net from my blackjack II.

Check your server settings.
Your Incoming server should be pop.xxx.cox.net
Your outgoing server should be smtp.xxx.cox.net.

The "xxx" is dependent upon the Cox region in which your email account is based.

For example, I am in VA so my incoming server is pop.east.cox.net. Check your Cox account for the exact settings

Ican not send emails

You will have to change your outgoing mail (SMTP) in Outlook/Express or whatever email client you use to (Cox).

For Arizona it should be:
Cox West outgoing mail server: smtp.west.cox.net

Your current setting is probably:
mail.mchsi.com

Or try checking "My Outgoing Server Requires Authorization". Then you should be able to keep you current setting.
