It depends on what you mean for upgrade

upgrade could be software, installing xp for instance or hardware, installing more memory, for instance.

the answer depends on the the type of system hardware setup (what motherboard, how much memory, what computer brand and model, if you want to post more details, like model numbers and capacities or if computer is a brand computer what model number it is, we can find out more about your system hardware setup to the point that we can explain what your options are hardware and sofware wise in regards to possible upgrades for your system.

as a minimum one alwasy recommended upgrade is memory: to go from windows 2000 to xp, try to at least to have 512mb or 1 GB (it can work with 128mb minimum but it will be very slow making it not worth it), depending your motherboard the amount of memory that you can install.

hope this helps!

How do I upgrade the Bios for E5140, E5320, E5520, E6150, E6520, E6530 and E6550 LifeBooks?
NOTE: This BIOS upgrade is for E5140, E5320, E5520, E6150, E6520, E6530 and E6550 LifeBooks. The upgrade fixes an issue with the Full Dock II/LAN Dock II/Port Replicator II.
Instructions on Upgrading the BIOS.
Step 1: Create a bootable BIOS upgrade disk
This step can be performed on any system (desktop/notebook computer) running a Microsoft Operating system.
  1. Place the BIOS upgrade disk in the floppy drive of your pc/notebook.
  2. Copy the system files onto the BIOS upgrade disk to make it bootable.
  3. For example:
MS DOS prompt: type 'sys A:'
    MS Windows:
  4. Double click "My computer" on the desktop.
  5. Right click the floppy drive icon.
  6. Select "Format?"
  7. Select the "copy system files only" option
Step 2: Upgrading the BIOS
  1. Attach a floppy disk drive to the LifeBook to be upgraded.
  2. Place the BIOS upgrade disk (created in Step 1) in the floppy drive of that LifeBook.
  3. Reboot the system. Boot from the floppy.
  4. At the command prompt, type:
phlash /mode=3 filename.rom (put a space after "phlash" and after "3". Filename is the name of the BIOS.)
  5. Allow the system to reboot.
Step 3: Change BIOS settings (For users upgrading from Windows 9x to Windows 2000).
To allow Windows 2000 to better manage your system, change the following settings in your BIOS:
a) Boot the notebook and press F2 to enter BIOS setup.
b) Set Power Management to Disabled
b) Set Plug and Play OS to NO
Consult your user's guide on how to change BIOS settings.

When i tryed to upgrade my windows 98 to 2000 Although during the final steps of the setup the computer resarted and it stared over again then again and again?

This is due to either incompatible BIOS settings or incompatible hardware. Make sure all of your hardware is compatible with Windows 2000 before upgrading. If so, then check all BIOS settings to ensure compatibility.

Upgrading windows xp to vista

You can upgrade from your current edition of Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 2000 to a corresponding or better edition of Windows Vista by purchasing and installing an upgrade copy of Windows Vista.
While selecting the edition of Windows Vista that's right for you, it's important to clearly understand what hardware your PC will need to ensure the features you want will run reliably.
