You probably need to re-sync the remote to the fan. To do this, turn the power off to the fan; and within ten seconds, hit the "3" button, then the "2", and then hold the 1 button until you hear a click. This should fix it. Good luck!

Let me add the the sync thing. I have a hunter 28424 ceiling fan
In my case I have a wall switch that kills the fan and the light. It seems that now the remote and the receiver get lost when I shut it off that way. I just found ( after banging my head against the wall for 3 weeks) that after turning the power on at the wall switch, the fan will be in the 1 or 2 speed. I have to then hit the 3 then the 2 then the 1 and then the zero for it to sync. When I hit the zero button, iI hear a click and then I can change the speed of the fan as well as turn the lights on. I was never, from day one, able to get the lights to stay on while on High. Low, no problem, but then again I am using CFLs and that might be the cause. I wa dreading having to pull it down to change out the receiver. Its mounted 15" up on a cathedral ceiling and it weighs a ton. I know I put it up there.
Hopefully this helps other out there and reading the ongoings withI Hunter i would say this is the last hunter fan iwill ever purchase. If you do need to have you receiver repaired these people might be able to do it.
I was just about to take the plunge when I found the fix.

Replacing the batteries (2) should solve the problem. There batteries in the handheld remote and batteries in the receiver inside the fan's cowling. When installing the batteries, be sure they are facing the proper direction. If they aren't the remote will not work. Also, keep in mind, the wall switch must be ON when using the remote control.

Hope this helped you.

Recently moved, the remote doesn't work the fan, and there isn't a wall on off switch This is a Hampton Breeze fan. A Hunter univesal remote

If the remote is not working, first check the batteries. If you have the manual for the programmable remote try to reset it. If you have no wall swtch you have to control the fan and light manually with the pull chains on the fan.

Hunter ceiling fan remote problem

You will most likely need to replace the receiver with a new one from hunter. The receiver is actually a complete controller and contains the receiver, relays (which you hear clicking) and starting condensors(large capacitors which hold a charge that is "dumped" over the windings to get the motor to start from a dead stop). These appear to be pretty tightly assembled unless you have a desire to start replacing parts "off the board."

Need instruction page for the Hunter light/fan remote control

There is a battery in the hand held remote and another battery in the receiver which gets tucked into the ceiling mount cover. Remove the ceiling cover and you will see the battery there, usually a 12 volt battery.

The upp/down slide is a dimmer.

In the event that changing the batteries doesn't solve your problems, Hunter makes replacement remote sets, available at Home Depot, lowes, etc and usually around twenty dollars.
