Cannot transfer images from my Canon DSLR XTi to my computer

I've been directly downloading images from my Canon DSLR XTi camera to my computer using the USB cable that Canon provides me, and the EOS Utility works well before, even if I want to directly go to 'My Computer', my CF card is there as 'Transcend'.

But now, somehow, it has been 2 months, I cannot directly download images from my camera to my computer, even my computer now cannot read my camera/CF card. I have 3 USB ports, and all works well. I even uninstall the Solution Disk and reinstall, but still doesn't work.

What should I do? Please help to recover my problem.

Thanks a lot.

I have the Canon XTi Rebel. This is the second one I have had. The first one i had to exchange it where I purchashed it for the one I now have. Both cameras did the same in about the same amount of time and downloads to my computer. (2 to three weeks and about 10 or less downloads) When I plug the USB cord into the port on the camera the camera does not react in any means. It will not respond acts like nothing has been plugged in. I have and am working with Canon support and they have not yet been about to fix it. I try plugging it into a different computer and still the same results. I think there is something wrong with this models USP port, the one on the camera. It seems strange that the same thing happens to two camera in about the same about of time. If you have any answers please let me know

I am having the same issue. The computer doesnt recognise the camera properly. I am thinking of updating the firmware on my camera. I think that might help. To do that you have to have the software on the CF card so I have to arrange for a CF card reader. I am waiting on one. I will post you guys if it works. Meanwhile if anyone has luck solving this annoying issue. Please let us know. Here is the link for the new firmware.

Same problem here, too. Tried 4 USB ports, new USB cord, two computers, different software for downloading. All result in hanging and then crashing about 2/3 way through import or the computer not detecting the camera at all. This is the second Canon digital camera I've bought that just quit working after a year or so. Looks like I have to buy a new camera, and it won't be a Canon.

Having same issue as above - I thought it was my cable so I ordered a new one. The camera attempts to 'speak' to the pc - and then the Windows box pops up not recognising the USB installed device....I also uninstalled and reloaded the Canon software (had camera for 18 months and only started this rubbish a month back) - was about to re-laod my entire PC - thankfully I saw it was not only me.

Will send mine in for a Firmware update / service.

Try reformating the card and try using a different card sounds like that you are having an issue with the card.

Does Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi 400D Black 10.1MP DSLR Camera work with Vista

You should not have any problems.
If your photos are stored on the memory card, then removethe memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader.Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of yourworking computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device oran external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card andcopy the photos to your computer.Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. Youcan copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off yourmemory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing anyprograms.

Have canon rebel xti digital 400d--how do i see live image prior to shooting on lcd monitor

This Canon model 400D or XTi does not have Live view capability in the LCD screen, so you cannot do it.

You have to use the view finder to select the image that you want to capture with it.

If you need a Canon DSLR camera with Live View capability, you need to try other different model such as the T1i or XSi.

Sounds normal. You could get a faster computer. I like using a  USB card reader.

EOS Utility does not recoganize Canon Rebel Xti

I believe there are 2 modes of usb transfer that you can pick in the camera. They are set somewhere in the menu in the options. If you go through the menus thoroughly you'll find it. One option is for connecting the camera directly to a printer and the other is for computer transfer (there might also be an Auto setting but I don't remember for sure). Make sure that setting is set for computer transfer. If that doesn't fix your problem, re-install or update EOS Utility / ZoomBrowser.

Try installing or reinstalling the software on the CD ROM that came with the camera.

Missing Photos Canon Rebel XTi

You can actually still keep taking photos with your camera without loosing the images. The XTi will never delete the images off a card unless you press the trashcan key and tell it to "delete all".

It's always good practice in these situations to have a memory card reader handy. You can pick up a compact flash reader for your XTi for about $14 at BestBuy or many other retaillers.

But to answer your question: Use the ZoomBrowser EX software that came with the camera. If your Picasa is set to automatically connect and download every time the camera is connected - temporarily disable it. That way it wont inturrupt Canon's software (which I prefer).

Canon eos digital canon rebel xti - LCD won't work when shooting

Most DSLR cameras (like your Canon) don't have a live view - in other words, you can't "see" the image before you capture it. You must use the viewfinder.

Transfering Photos

In your case it seems like the software is the problem, try uninstalling it completly and reinstalling it back after a restart of your machine, also check this:
If this does not solve the problem then try using any other software for downloading pics from your camera or simply use the windows built in feature like:
Going to my computer, and check if you can see your camera drive there and simply copying and pasting from there. (see if this helps you).
I hope it helps you!

Transfer from XTI camera to PC

Seems to be a common problem with the XTi. Some say it's designed to underexpose to avoid washing out the bright parts of scene. Personally I found it a pita. I had to PhotoShop each shot.So I sent it back to the repair facility. They re-calibrated it. Now it works fine.
