Question about Epiphone Les Paul 100 Electric Guitar

Fix the wiring in a epi lp100

I just bought a lp100 that it appears the former owner tried to change (and proceded to make a mess of) the pickup wiring. Does anyone have a wiring schematic that I can use to re-wire the guitar back to original?

Thanks,
Kevin

What model of Epiphone guitar does the serial number JI99050144 belong to ?

The serial number of an Epi won't tell us the precise model.

In addition that serial number does not match any Epi data. It might be "J1.........." but even then there are too many digits.

Please check carefully.

Wiring change from Fender

Standard J-Bass wiring is parallel. Not series.

To run the pickups in series, the ground of one pickup would feed into the hot of the next. That's not what comes from the factory.

I bought a yamaha electric it has two double pick ups and a single in the middle the volume knob was no good so i changed it when i opened it up they had the wiring all messed up it has a five pos. switch...

my guess is two positions at one end work(aka 1 and 2, or 4 and 5)? if yes, then 2 of the pickups are wired wrong. (if 1 and 2 work, which are the forward positions, then the middle and bridge pickup are wired wrong, etc.) the problem is there is a variety of 5way switches that are different. i would guess yours is "import" style. are there 8 lugs in a single row on the back of the switch? if yes, you probably have an import switch. best i can do in text is tell you that the middle two lugs are common. this means one goes to the volume pot, and there is probably a little jumper between the two lugs as well. now there are 3 lugs on either side of those 2 common lugs. one set of 3 will probably run to the tone pot in some fashion or be empty. the other set of 3 lugs is for the pickup lead wires. it sounds like at least one or two of those lugs are empty but shouldnt be, or are wired wrong. i cant tell you colors of your wires without seeing it, but this is how it should be, with the exception that the tone knob will probably be on the bottom 3 lugs somewhere. 1 would be the neck pickup, 2 the middle, and 3 the bridge hope this helps, feel free to post a pic of your wiring, etc xadioriderx.jpg

My Fender Vintage Pickups came with a Capacitor AND a Resistor. Where do they go in the wiring of the pickups??

this shows the proper location of the two different caps and the resister, but the rest of the wiring should be stock Strat wiring (the owner of the guitar in this pic says there is a wiring problem- so don't necessarily follow everything...but the caps and resister are correct).

Can the epiphone p/ups be changed to gibson's, is it worth it ?

Yes, the pickups can be changed.

However; In my opinion this is not worth it. Pick up a pair of aftermarket pickups for a better sound that will fit your playing style.

Low volume on front pickup of Epiphone Les Paul

i have an old sg, and this happened to me too. the repair guy told me that inside the p/u, the windings were broken, resulting in a lower output. go on e-bay, and look up a neck pos. humbucker. there everywhere. or do yourself a favor, and do what i did. i have an epi. flying v, and epi. les paul. on e-bay, i bought gibson 57 classics. i put these in both my guitars, and i now have great sounding guitars. you will not belive the difference. good luck, scott
