First make sure that the soundcard is detected by windows.. Right click on My Compter then Properties, on the Hardware tab click on the device manager then look for uninstalled hardware.. if there is no uninstalled hardware then maybe your sound card hardware is not detected by the Operating system you should enabled it at the system BIOS...

Hi, I have a Shuttle SK21G (admittedly not a current product). It uses an external sound card because I thought this would be of better quality than the on-board sound chip. The only drawback is that I...

> which is fiddle when changing between speakers and headphones

Purchase a 4-foot "extension" cable -- plug its MALE end into the AUDIO-OUT from the sound-card.
Bring the FEMALE end of the cable to somewhere in front of your computer.
Bring the MALE ends of BOTH the speakers and the headphone to the same location.

Then, when it's time to "fiddle", then the plugging/unplugging is right there, in front of you, and will be much easier to do!

Cost: about $5.

First, you need to learn what sound card your PC has.

Go to start menu/my computer/(right click) properities -> device manager. there you should find the name of the sound card listed among other hardware.

If you have the exact name, search for the company's website. On the website you should find a tab "support" where they let you download the official drivers.

hope that helps

I got a used shuttle and i don't know the password and im trying to restore it it don't have a disk drive how can i clear it

If there's no harddisk present, it means you need a password at hardware (BIOS) level, immediately at boot-up.
The former owner should have provided this pwd to you. However, there's a work-around.
1) Disconnect powercable
2) Open casing
3) Locate the CMOS-battery (it's a 3V CR2032 battery)
4) Remove this battery from it's socket / holder
5) Get a 100 Ohm resistor
6) Connect both pins of resistor to the connectors of the batterysocket / holder. Hold this resistor for about 2 hours.
7) Insert battery back again
8) Close casing, connect powercable and turn on PC.

My shuttle pc gets part way through booting windows xp then makes clicking noise and gives up. Rebooting in safemode causes it to get partway through the xp files and then stalls

Sounds like you might have a bad CPU. If possible, try another hard drive in the system (just to eliminate the possibility of a bad hard drive) first, but my guess is the CPU.

Dell Inpiron 1420 having Speaker Problem, I have checked Drivers, and sound card installation but didnt find any problem with all that. Appreciate if some one can guied me as how can I fix that problem.

Some PC's have 2 audio outs, one in front and one in back. Often they are switcheable, as in my Shuttle xPC. If it is a sound card, try another PCI slot. If it is integrated, do a chipset driver update from the chipset maker, like Nvidia or ATI, Intel, etc.
