Hi,

This could be either the element itself or the switch that controls the element. Since the outer ring is working the issue almost always is with the element. The top can come up and the element replaced.

It is a moderate repair, so some technical ability will be required, the use of an ohmmeter is needed to verify the component that has failed. Let me know if you need more information.

Hi, If you could send me the complete model number from the tag on the range I could pull down a diagram to help show you. The tag should be on the oven cavity just inside the door or bottom drawer.

Here is an image of the breakdown for the top. Be sure to turn the power off to the range first. There will be a couple screws on the front edge visible with the oven door open looking up. the top will hinge up and elements will be attached to the underside by the brackets (26). Take one end of the bracket off and the element will drop down. I like to mark the element with a pencil (leaving me a witness mark on exactly how it was positioned) you will see numbers on the element to note where the mounts go. You can also take a digital picture before you take it apart to make sure you get it back right. The dual element will have 3 wires going to it. Take the wires off and use the ohmmeter to check from each terminal to the other 2, if the element is bad you will get no reading (infinite resistance) on that terminal set

How do i fix a heating element on my electric cooktop

Most top elements are just a plug in.. find where the element joins the body of the stove and firmly pull on the element straight back from that point. MAKE SURE THE POWER TO THE STOVE IS TURNED OFF AT THE BREAKER

Frigidaire stove front large/small burner combination. Large burner works but the small burner in the centre of the large burner does not come on at all with any heat. ??

This is a inner/outer burner type assembly? Sounds like a glass top.
Either way, your switch for that burner or the burner needs to be replaced.
If you are able and it is possible, inter change switches to see if it makes a difference. Interchange Large with large, small with small.
If yous switches are connected as one unit, you will not be able to do this. Sorry, I have not looked up your wiring diagram.

My GE profile electric range (model PS905SPSS) has a power boil burner with dual burner elements (one inner circle and one large outer circle). The outer circle one is glowing and heating but the inner...

Disconnect power to range. If you have an ohm meter, you can check the burner coils for continuity from the wires at the switch. If not, open oven door, remove screws holding top. Lift up top and remove screws holding the set of burners in question and visually inspect the inner coil for a break in the burner coil.

Seems I have no power to either heater...I always leave the rear heater on all the time , but all is dead today ..

It sounds like your heating element is burned out. This would affect both burners. You can get a quote to have it repaired, but from experience I can tell you that it will be less expensive to replace the entire coffeemaker.

*Heating elements only have a certain "lifetime" (like lightbulbs). You might try not using it constantly if this is possible.

Stove top burners and lower baking element not heating up

If all the elements are dead, check for blown fuses/tripped circuit breakers. There may be some in the range unit itself in addition to your electrical service panel. If one element is completely dead on all heat settings, the control is probably bad or there is a broken wire. If it is stuck on high for all control settings or is erratic, the control is bad - replacements are readily available and easily installed.
On ranges with push button heat selection, a pair of heating elements are switched in various combinations across 120 and/or 240. If some heat settings do not work, the most likely cause is that one of the heatings elements is burnt out although a bad switch is also possible. Kill power to the range and test the heating elements for continuity with resistance meter or multimeter.

For the lower baking element:
Again, check for blown fuses in the oven or tripped circuit breakers. The remove any wiring to the bottom element and test for resistance. If you get no reading (or a very high resistance) then your element is dead.

Dual element burner on glasstop range...inner element stays on

It is the burner control (behind the knob). The triac in the control has failed. $50 item, 10 minute change. Just make note which wire goes to which terminal.

I doubt that it is the control board, as the board has little to do with the stove top, but rather controls the display and the oven temperature/feedback monitoring.

Hope this helps.

COOKTOP

its been my experience that the dual burner switch is far more likely the culprit, unless you can physiclaly see the outer ring is broken( visual inspection works wonders. as far as trying to ohm out i generally look at theelemnet itself (4 wires lead to the elemnt you can trace 1 to the outer portion of element, and 1 to the inner portion.WITH POWER OFF Iswithc those 2 wires and the restore power try element ad watch for outer ring to work inner ring no good. now i know its the switch not sending power. reset wires and order new switch

Kenmore Elite 790 Range

I can't believe I found this today. Today, my Elite 790 inner coil also stopped working! A little too coincidental.

When I turn on the burner, I can hear like a relay click on, but it does not heat. The middle and outer burners are fine.
