Trying to print to a Toshiba 4520C color copier from Adobe Indesign CS3 (Mac 10.6). Prints fine from Quark, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe PDF, and Adobe Photoshop CS3. Tried several files and it typically will only print some info not all pictures and / or eps files. Some text doesn't even print. We have the latest driver and the printer has the latest ROM. Currently work around is to make PDF file and print from there. I would like to print directly from InDesign CS3. I've downloaded and tested InDesign CS5 and it still does not function. Any suggestions?

Try updating the drivers for the printer from the manufacturers web site. I doubt the issue is related to the printer itself, otherwise it would fail to print magenta all the time.

There are a few different drivers for this machine: RPCS (ricoh's own), PCL5c, and PCL6. I have had incidents of strange output, often with the RPCS driver, and find that the PCL 5c works best. Identify which you are using, and maybe try another.
here is a link for the driver download page. Copy the line into your web browser:

SOURCE: Got error when print to Xerox phaser color printer

If the printer does not have a hard drive. Pdf will be hard to print.
Second, Are you using a PS driver or PCL? If PCL change to PS.

Here are some direct printing setups also.

To download a PDF file directly to the printer from Windows 2000 / XP / Server 2003:
To download a file to a printer that is connected using an Ethernet (network) cable, use the FTP command or CentreWare Internet Services (CWIS). To download a file to the printer that is connected directly to the computer with a USB cable, use the Xerox File Downloader Utility.
To download a file to the printer using the FTP command:
NOTE: To perform this solution, the printer must be connected to a network that utilizes the TCP/IP protocol. The printer must also contain a valid IP address. If necessary, contact your System Administrator for additional information.
Not all web browsers can be used to perform this solution. If problems occur when performing this solution, download the file using CWIS. See the To download a file to the printer using CWIS section below.

  1. From the computer, open an Internet browser window.
  2. Type: ftp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, where the x characters represent the IP address of the printer, in the Address field.

NOTE: The IP address of the printer can be found on the Configuration Page. See the Related Items below for additional information.

  3. Press [Enter] on the keyboard. A blank FTP connection window with a [.] icon will be displayed.
  4. Drag and drop the file to be sent to the printer into the blank FTP connection window. The file will be sent to the printer.
To download a file to the printer using CWIS:
NOTE: To perform this solution, the printer must be connected to a network that utilizes the TCP/IP protocol. The printer must also contain a valid IP address. If necessary, contact your System Administrator for additional information.
  1. From a computer, open an Internet browser window.
  2. Enter the IP address of the printer in the Address field, and then press [Enter] on the keyboard. The CentreWare Internet Services home page will be displayed.

NOTE: The IP address of the printer can be found on the Configuration Page. See the Related Items below.

  3. Click on the [Print] button.
  4. Click on the [File Download] link in the list of options on the left side of the window.
  5. Depending on the browser being used, click on the [Browse] or [Choose File] button, and then browse to and select the file to be downloaded to the printer.
  6. Click on the blue, square button to send the file to the printer.
To download a file to the printer using the Xerox File Downloader Utility:
NOTE: This solution assumes the Xerox File Downloader Utility has already been installed on the computer. If necessary, click on the [Drivers and Downloads] link under the Product Resources menu on this window to download and install the utility.
  1. From the computer, open the Xerox File Downloader Utility. By default, the utility is installed in the following location on the computer's hard drive: C:\File Downloader.
  2. Select the required printer from the Select the printer to spool the file to from the list below pull-down menu.
  3. Click on the [Browse] button, and then browse to and select the file to be downloaded to the printer from the Select the file to sent to the printer section.
  4. Click on the [Send] button to send the file to the printer.
To download a PDF file directly to the printer from Macintosh OS X:
Files can be downloaded to the printer using the Print Center or Printer Setup Utility, or by using CentreWare Internet Services (CWIS).
To download a file to the printer using the Print Center or Printer Setup Utility:
NOTE: This method can be used for Ethernet (network) and USB connections.

Color matching

If this is a print problem and not just a screen issue, here's what I suggest.

In Illustrator, double click the colour swatch for the Pantone Book colour you are using and obtain the CMYK values.

In Quark, instead of using the same Pantone Book colour, create a new Process colour with the same CMYK values as the Illustrator swatch.

11x17 Landscape will only print 1 page then switches to Portrait

I found an acceptable workaround. If I leave the paper size set to "defined by driver" in the Print dialog box and chose the paper size in the Page Set Up dialog box, that seems to do it. There were numerous complaints on the web about this and it seems to be a major glitch in CS3 with the Leopard OS.

Imac / illustrator10

According to something I read in another forum:
Use migration assistant (in utilities) to copy over Illustrator 10 via firewire from your G4 to your imac. This is the only thing that might work without upgrading to a newer version of Illustrator.

I'm planning on trying it with both Illustrator 10 and Indesign 2.0 - Photoshop 7 won't go at all no matter what one tries according to what I've read. I'll be upgrading to CS3 for Photoshop. No choice.
