What are the operating systems? What type of KVM switch is it? Have you attempted to hit scroll lock 4x instead of 2x?

SOURCE: KVM3002 -- applying power to the power jack does

Try 2 KVM.use two KVM switchboxes. One KVM switches keyboard, video, and mouse, the second KVM just switches the video for the second monitor. They're fairly inexpensive and do a nice job of switching without introducing a lot of ugly video noise, and they have some nice keyboard shortcuts for direct access to a particular port, etc. Most KVM switches leach power for the switch's circuitry from the computers to which they are connected. Conveniently, pin 4 of both the PS/2 keyboard cable and the PS/2 mouse cable provide a +5 VDC source from which to power the switch. So, when a KVM is just plugged into video, and not to any computer keyboard or mouse ports, where does the KVM get its operating current? Well, usually from an external wall wart transformer. That's why most KVMs have a 5-to-9 volt external power input, even though most of the time you don't need it.------------THE MANUAL SAYS :--- Under certain circumstances it may be necessary to power the Switch-view with an external power supply. If this is necessary, the power supply should be a Listed Direct Plug-In Transformer unit marked "Class 2" or "L.P.S." and rated at 6 VDC, 700 mA.
-----------The SwitchView does require keyboard connection of a PC. The computer emits 5 volts out of the keyboard line and this is used to power the Channel. If the channel is not powered then the port cannot be switched to. To use the SwitchView as video-only, a PS-6F power supply is needed for every channel that will be video-only. PS-6F is a power supply which connects to the PS/2 keyboard port of the channel that will be video only. To purchase the PS-6F you can contact Sales at 1-800-932-9239 and they will help locate a reseller in your area.------------
-------- Check out.This should help.Try 2 KVM switch boxes.----Thanks.Helpmech.

Why won't my Logitech Traackman MArble FX work with Windows 7?

If you are trying to convert your Logitech Trackman Marble FX from PS2 to USB so it will work with Windows 7, you can't just convert the port type - you have to get an "adapter" that converts the PS2 signal to a USB signal. See for ATen - UC 100KMA. WEB SIte:
http://www.aten.com/products/KVM/KVM-Modules-&-Accessories/PS2-to-USB-Adapter~UC100KMA.html#.U5sYrCi4NAE.

It allows you to convert a PS2 keyboard and PS2 mouse/trackball with the one device. It's what I use and it works just fine. The regular $2.00 port adapter was useless.

They are on EBAY sometimes for $20 or so. GOOD LUCK. :)

I just purchased an iogear GCS1742 2 port kvm Switch. The keyboard is the only piece of hardware that will not work. I have two cpu systems and one monitor. The keyboard has a PS2 connector with a usb...

Bill,

Due to the keyboard emulation that the GCS1742 uses it may not work with a PS/2 to USB adapter. If possible try using the KVM with a basic USB wired keyboard. This will tell you if the KVM is in working condition or if there is a problem with the actual KVM. If the KVM does not function correctly with a basic USB wired keyboard then I would think there is a problem with the KVM.

Have you tried rebooting once it is connected? Not sure if it makes a difference, but I know you can not hook up PS2 peripherals without rebooting.

GCS62 - both computers must be on for this thing to work?

It seems that you KVM switch is not working properly. computers connected to a KVM switch are not dependent to each other. you should be able to work on any of your computers while the others were turned off.

KVM Switch 4110 8 port

so is the KVM (control side, PS2 mouse / kbd>??)
or are all PS2 ports wired to adaptors,? i cant guess this nor what was used before, no history stated.
what was there before, this act?
and what now?
Ill assume worse cases (tossed a coin)
18 (16+2) adapters now. all devices are USB but KVM
ok.?

what mode fails, both the KVM pushbotton switch and or the hot key commands on the kbd?
Oops no manual button as seen on modern KVM.

KVMs are very complex. the hard part is the vast number of different PC.
USB , PS2, VGA, DVI and HDMI.. yah,..
OK 16 +2=18 x ps2, and 9 VGA ports. it is.
NO KVM does it all, ,, old KVM' do NOT work , on new computers, all folks know this , if they tried. or took readings to learn why it fails.
I bet power to the KVM is dead., no LED./
no manual button ,oops.
pin 4 PS2 reads 5vdc and connected up, same?
we use breakout boxes (DIY) to test ports connected.'

that Compaq is very old and no support now, no books.
why not ask at real HP, maybe some old guy there can dig it lost books>
40 KVM? that what you said, really? (or 40/8=5 kvm)?
my guess is the adaptor does not work or power issues
KVM >>PS2>>>ADapt>>> USB.(server) (usb 1,2,or 3 at server?)
The KVM in most cases, here, steals power from PS2 ports but not this KVM , its better.
i'd bet that adaptor cant do that.
(is the caps lock key working on the KBD and laser LED glowing on said mouse?

ask here, real HP.
lets see tests:
1: pin 4 ps2 5vdc?
2: mouse glows?
3: keyboard led , caps lock toggles? (glows)
4: lost the hot key commands (y/n)

one other problem is the BIOS in the server may not like your adaptor at all. When BIOS scans the keyboard. it expects a ID response if missing or grabled, it drops that device port.

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/

btw, one way to cure this, is run headless server software
end KVM for ever.

i run a LAMP server, that comes in the box, no kvm no any thing on ports. it has a web page to go to and do service that way.
port IP+:12321
modern ways work best.
in a server farm, a keyboard/mouse/monitor on rolling cart
for the super sick servers is best...

the other problem is USB only PC or server
does not scan PS2 ports, it has none
so if the adaption fails, at boot time, all is lost.
(BIOS reports connected devices to the OS)(unstated by you)so if the report fails, problems happen
for sure after the boot.

this device is s business device, now ("Enterprise)
the posts on it are like 10 years ago. all links to books now dead.
infact the compaq server that had them is turned off. (grin)
here is my search there. Why not ask them?

USB mouse not recognized

I have similar problem. 2 inland KVM's (both have PS2 inputs, one has USB outputs) do not light or recognize my usb mouse with a PS2 adapter. They do recognize a PS2 ball mouse on the KVM's however. One of the computers (Sony vaio 1.5 GHz) does recognize a usb mouse with adapter on 2 other KVM's (Old Belkin and a Trendnet) (the second computer I have not tried in those configurations). Next I will try an optical mouse with a PS2 fitting. That did work with a fifth KVM at an auto business last week.

I?ve had issues with USB mice on the more inexpensive KVM switches. I?m currently using a Belkin OmniView using a Microsoft Explorer USB optical mouse and a PS2 to USB adaptor. The adaptors I use are from Cyberguys.com and work well for most of the USB mice we have.
