The liquid has shorted out probably every electronic component in the unit. It is fried. You need a new one.

Yamaha HTR-5830 Video shut down.

You have having a problem with the video amp clipping the signal after it get hot. You have one way to try to temporarily solve this problem. Try putting more air flow over your receiver and cooling down the temperature inside the receiver and see if the video amplifier starts working correctly. If it does then you must put a fan on it somewhere that will keep the air flowing so the video amplifier is not allow to overheat. If this does not solve the problem, then you will need to have the amplifier replaced for it to work correctly. If the unit is under warranty then call this number 1-800-492-6242 to locate a service center in your area. Call them for help with your problem. You can also try looking on the www.yamaha.com website. Put in you model number and check in the frequently asked questions and troubleshooting sections for people who have had similar problems with this unit and see if they printed a solution for the problem. I hope this helps you with your problem.

Volume control broken

You can purchase clear 2-part epoxy products at most home improvement stores. You will also need masking tape (or similar) a popsicle stick (or similar) a small piece of cardboard and a toothpick.
Mix the epoxy with the popsicle stick and apply a small amount to the exposed surface of the volume control's stem. Holding the knob in place, run a strip of tape from the top of the unit, across the knob and to the bottom.
These epoxies are very strong and fast setting. It's probably best to leave the tape for at least 8 hours but you should refer to the instructions for the epoxy you buy.

Good Luck,
BB

It keeps turning off

The audio output ICs or transistors are blown. Solid state elctronics are not very forgiving when they are shorted. it takes one tiny instantance and the componets will fry. sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you will need to have this unit serviced or replaced, And never ever work on any type of electronics with the power still on. Good Luck

The amplifier protection circuit is kicking in. There are a number of possible reasons. One is that you have a problem with your speakers or speaker wiring. Carefully inspect your speakers for any changes, and examine the wires looking for shorts or opens. If it isn't a speaker problem, then something in the amp is triggering the protection event. It could be thermal (something getting too hot). That could be due to bad air circulation, dust, or an electronic component failure. A second event would be DC voltage on the speaker outputs. This could be due to a bad capacitor, leaky semiconductor, or the bias adjustment (if it has one) that needs to be reset. A third event would be high current draw. That most likely would be due to a semiconductor that is about to blow. You should have this checked out. If you keep doing your override, you may blow out something that wouldn't otherwise fail. Or you can wait for something to blow, and then it would be much easier to find the root cause (just look for the smoke).
