Question about Samsung HP-T4254 42 in. Plasma Television

1 Answer

Twice now Samsung has had to send repair technicians to replace the panel because of either horizontal or vertical lines. This will be the third time and warranty is over in 9 days. It is hardly ever watched. What could be causing the panel to go??? I don't want it happening again when warranty is over! Thanks

Hi, and thanks for your reply.

What is your level of experience with Plasma TV repair?

Is this something that is unusual?
It has never been hit, broken or dropped. This makes no sense that we would have 3 defective panels unless something else in the TV is causing it.
Or is it known that these panels are poorly designed/manufactured?

I have raised hell this time and last time, but Samsung is adamant that they will not replace the TV unless the repair technician writes that it is not repairable.

To me, getting another panel that is just going to go again soon isn't an option so I'm trying to find some bit of info that the repair tech can look into to prevent this from happening again OR some way I can influence him to say it's not repairable.

I don't have enough info at this time.

Hi, and thanks for your reply.

I found your qualifications after I replied. I hadn't noticed that section before.

My model number is HP T4254.

It just seems like more than coincidence that I've had 3 bad panels. Logic tells me either something else in the TV is behaving wrong and causing this, or Samsung must have a problem with this panel in general.

Is there absolutely nothing in the TV that can cause a panel to develop either horizontal or vertical lines? Something wrong with the power that's causing pixels to blow (I'm sure this sounds stupid, but I'm not a techie!) or any other thing that can affect this?

I have been calm but angry with them and have reiterated over and over that this this tv has serious problems and continuing to repair it when we *know* it's gonna go again is not a workable solution. I have politely but firmly dealt with this and they are just not backing down. Talked to a supervisor this time and she gave me the same song and dance. "If it's repairable - that's what we'll do."

    Grrrrr!!

I'm sure it's hard to diagnose without seeing the unit, but you've done everything you can, I'm sure. I now have some info to talk to the repair guy with, and that's what I was looking for.

You've gone the extra mile and I hope it pays off for me.

    Thanks.

Hi there
To answer your question;
First make sure to have a good contact with samsung about this problem.
If you,re talking about the display panel, it usually carries a longer(not specified) warranty.
There is nothing in particular that can cause the display panel to go beside the panel itself or being hit and broken.
So make sure to keep on top of it and raise hell if you have to, until the problem is fixed.
It is not your problem if they could`nt fix it right the first time.
Hope this help Good luck

First , I actually am a working tech that has been around since the seventies and i do this primarily to help people.

I can see that samsung is trying to cover it`s track when it comes to what i think is a series of bad panel.

It is also my experience that they(samsung) will replace your set if you berate them enough.

It is not a normal working situation for a tv set to have a repeated problem like yours, no matter what the cause is, or who`s fault it is.

I will look and see if i can find anything in particular as far as your model is concerned, about bad display panel.

By the way: About 75% of the tv`s we repair now are either plasma or lcd.

The picture problems horizontally are usually caused by y-sustain driver boards (upper and/or lower) or the xsustain board.

And vertically you`d suspect the control/logic board or the panel itself.

If the power supply voltages called VS and VA are out of range it may overdrive the panel but usually causes pixels to flare(Stars like dots in the screen) as a visual sign.

I don`t know who`s doing their service but maybe they should start to suspect some of those boards.

Not good. You may have a tab failure. A repair shop may be able to diagnose and repair this, but most likely the lcd panel is broken. The panel is the most expensive part of flat tv's. A new panel will cost more than a used tv.

HI When I start my ALBA TV, there are horizontal lines across the screen with high noisy sound. I bought this TV just few months ago. thank you

The horizontal line in the screen is the problem cause by vertical output driver. The vertical output is located at the verical section.Maybe theres a loose connection in vertical section or leaked capacitor. It also the cause of deffective vertical ic.So its better to repair and trouble shoot by the authorized technician. If you have knowledge in Tv.Try to replace the leaked capacitor.

Dear brother i have problem my lcd tv samsong , a vertical line is comming in right side how it will rectify ? pl suggest . thank jks

If it's a thin vertical or horizontal line which is constantly there in the same place chances are the panel is defective.Normally a panel repairs or replacement is not cost effective and you need to live with this defect or go for new monitor. Sorry !

3.5 inchs of my tv is missing

You didn't mentioned if it is vertically or horizontally 3.5 inchs black. If horizontally 3.5 inchs black you have a faulty electrolytic capacitor on the vertical section. You are now wondering why vertical section is affected, because you haven't enough vertical scanning that's why the 3.5 inchs fill only by black. Send it to repair or look for a qualified technician to replaced the electrolytic capacitor on the vertical section.

Horizontal lines in pictures

hi If u find that the lines are vertical that is often a result of taking pictures of very bright subjects. This is  called vertical streaking. If the lines are horizontal lines there is probably something wrong with your sensor and you should have the camera looked at by an authorized service technician , and they will send it out to have it looked at. hope this helps!
thank u rate me!!!

the vertical line has nothing to do with the picture tube,Some component in the horizontal circuit is causing that problem, most likely an electrolytic capacitor

Sceptre X20G Naga III showing horizontal and vertical lines

Hi...there,

Yeah, there it... It's called a AD board. It that piece of component were you plugged your VGA or DVI cables to it. Panel scratchs repair kits, not recommended. Beside your panel could be already damaged by this problems you had. Replacing the AD board gonna cost you though...any where from $70.00 or more... My recommendation, just get a new one...saved you the headached and $$$.
Have a nice day!
