Nikon Coolpix model S50 Camera sometimes fails to start up. After pushing power button, green light comes on and after hearing a click inside the camera, the green light goes out. It seems like pushing on the battery/memory door on the bottom might be affecting the operation of the camera.

-   I purchased a new battery and the camera still will not power on. Seems like a bad on/off switch. Should have bought a Canon.-   Guest

-   My Nikon S50 won't turn on. I have to open the battery door and push down on the battery until I feel it make contact. Then the camera will turn on about 50% of the time. Its not the battery and it does the same thing with a new battery.-   wlfherbs

I took my battery out, used a pencil eraser to clean off the metal area on the bottom and gently scraped it with a knife. Presto, the camera comes on without having to push down ******* the battery.

My camera is about 2-3 yrs old and this is the only problem I've had. The camera works fine unless you try to use the menu button. Also the macro option on the dial doesn't work, but the timer option and the flash option work. Any ideas on how to fix my camera?
