Mine quit one day, (800 #) no help, just check for loose wires... I rewired mine and use shredder OIL (office supply stores) to keep it from jamming up.

If it is dead and you have no lights and nothing runs the most likely the pcb is blown inside...give Royal a call at 1-800-524-0799 for parts and pricing.

Video about How to Verify Power from a 110V Outlet

  • The first step of troubleshooting a power issue with a machine equipped with a power cord is to verify that the outlet being used is working

    • This video demonstrates a simple method of testing the outlet

  • Make sure that the outlet and appliance have matching plug and receptacle before plugging in

    • Failure to do so could result in injury and/or damage to electrical circuit and/or appliance

  • This procedure is a quick and easy way to test the functionality of a 110 volt outlet

  • Plug in a small appliance such as the fan used in the video and make sure the appliance works

    • If so, you know that the outlet is not your problem

  • You could also use a light, small lamp, or radio for this test

    • Any small appliance that you can plug in and turn on and know the appliance is working

Won't turn on

This is a clear failure of the power supply or the control panel due to the power outage and so will require that the power to the unit internally is checked. Sometimes this can be due to a fuse blown out or a control panel failure within the unit due to the intermittent fluctuation.

No power. Will not turn on

Not intended to offend;
1. If using A/C (house electrical power), please check if electrical wall outlet is active. Attempt to plug-in another electrical device such as a lamp, clock, radio, etc.. If the electrical wall outlet has top and bottom plugs, try the top and then the bottom plug to see which one works. Sometimes, the top outlet will not work, yet the bottom outlet does work. The wall outlet should be replaced by qualified technician.
2. If both outlets do NOT work, and the outlet is GFCI breaker protected, maybe pressing the RESET switch on the outlet will power-up the outlet.
3. If the outlet is NOT GFCI breaker protected, check your electrical fuse box for a tripped fuse. Sometimes, a tripped fuse is NOT visible. May have to trip the specific fuse or all fuses to off, then back on. Recheck the wall outlet.
4. Once your know the outlet is live, check the power cord (a/c adapter for laptops) to make sure they are securely plugged-in to both the wall outlet AND the PC or Laptop.

Will need more information once the above steps are taken:

Is it a Desktop or Laptop?
Make and Model (if known)?
Any lights (glowing) on the desktop or laptop?
Any lights on the A/C adapter if its a laptop?

Disconnect your range from your AC outlet. At this time determine the time of the day where the power supply is stable and plug the Ac cord the display must reset the time time you plugged in the cord. If no reset happens the control panel board is damaged and must be replaced.

Getting intermittent report of "scanner failure". Sometimes starts up and runs, sometimes not.

if you get this error message as scanner failure it would be a hardware issue.. solution you could try is:- 1)connect the printer to the wall outlet and then check by making a copy..if its not working..then try the next step.. 2)perform a semifull reset on the printer..(unplug the power cord and then press # 6 button together and then plug in the power cord back and keep pressing those two buttons till the screen says semifull reset or till the scree changes from HP to another scree and then relese those two buttons) if its still the same then its time for you to change the printer

Front panel Ac Switch failing to start computer.

Try these steps.
If Power supply light does not turn on (or no power supply LED)
Perform the following steps, in order, until power is restored or it is determined that there is a hardware failure:
NOTE: If the Power Supply fan spins when the PC is turned on but the light does not come on, it is possible the LED is defective. If this is the case, use the section Power supply light comes on or flashes .
1. Disconnect everything from the PC, including the power cord.
2. With the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the front of the computer. Plug in the power cord and test to see if the computer can turn on. If not, continue using these steps.
3. Replace the power cord with another power cord, like the one used by the monitor.
Test to see if the computer can turn on. If not, continue using these steps.
4. Ensure that the voltage selector switch is on the correct setting, 115V for North America.
5. With the power cord removed, flip the red voltage selector switch to the opposite position, wait about five seconds, and then switch the red voltage selector switch back to its original location.
This ensures that the voltage switch is engaged and set correctly for your country/region.
6. Plug in the power cord and test to see if the computer can turn on. If not, continue using these steps.
7. Plug a lamp into the same outlet to see if the wall outlet has power. Try the computer in a different outlet in order to eliminate the outlet as a possible source of the issue. Test both to see if the wall outlets have power.
8. Remove all extension cords, power strips, surge protectors and any converters that remove ground. Plug the power cable directly to the wall outlet. Test for power. If this fixes the issue, find the device that is causing the issue and do not use it.
9. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove the build-up of dust from the power supply fan vent holes. Make sure that the PC is turned off and that the power cord is plugged into a grounded outlet. Only use the end of the vacuum hose near the outside of the fan entrance.
Plug in the power cord and test to see if the computer can turn on. If not, continue using these steps.
10. If all of the above steps have been tried and the power supply light remains off, use the steps in the next section, use the next section Power supply light comes on or flashes , to reseat the cables and check the power switch connector.

Will not power up

FirewallAvat: Your problem is likely because your battery is dead and the adapter isn't charging it. This may be due to broken connections in the cable from the adapter. Flexing often causes the wire inside to break near the plug. Generic replacement adapters are available, or the wire can be cut back a bit and a suitable replacement soldered on. The cause might also be broken solder connections on the main board at the power jack, This is common from stress due to the power plug flexing. It is usually possible to open the computer and resolder these connections, although sometimes there's too much damage from arcing before the connection fails entirely.

DocBrown: Does the power LED on your computer come on when you connect the adapter? If not, try the adapter in another outlet anyway. Sometimes one outlet in a strip can go bad. Check the output of the adapter with a voltmeter. If it's bad, replace it or try repairing it as noted above. If the adapter is good but the light isn't on, you might have the bad power jack as well.

My Compaq Presario will not start since we had a power failure in our town yesterday. It seems like it is unplugged, but it is plugged in. Can you help?

Can you check if the power is connected to the ac outlet, and if the cpu has a power. If no power in the cpu even the power cord is pluuged in the outlet of the power source the problem is your power supply. Maybe the fuse blow up when the power is back after the power failure. But sometimes the cpu has no power but the monitor have a power it's also power supply failure the dc output of power supply is not working. the best solution is to replace the power supply with the same wattages or higher.
