Question about Garden

1 Answer

I currently have an MTD Yard Machine - 12.5 HP with a 38 inch cut - it is over 10 years old. I wanted to change the tire and was able to remove the bolt, but cannot get the wheel/rim off the axle. I'm not sure if it is gaulded on the axle from age or if there are any hidden secrets as to how to get the wheel off the axle. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you, Tom

Your wheel must be rusted to the axle. Try WD40 or you might have to apply heat with a blowlamp. You would need to be very careful doing this. You could change the tyre without taking of the rim. Stephen.

I have found OEM part number 746-0552 on Ebay. This is for older units, say 1997 on. The cable is 49" in length. Here is a link to ALL the MTD brake cables on Ebay.

Yours is the MTD-White Outdoor Push Mower Brake Cable. # 746-0552.
We call this the deadman/brake cable. It allows a small brake pad to rub against the flywheel on the top of the engine while at the same time actuating a switch which shorts out the ignition current to the spark plug. An interesting and much needed device, right! Good luck. Hope this helps.

Where do i change the oil on 5.5 hp. 21 inch cut mtd push mower

Most of these machine will have an oil drain plug under the mower deck near the center of the blade. 80 to 90 % of them are a 3/8" drive female plug that can be removed with a ratchet and a short extention.
When you put it back in it is a good idea to clean it well and wrap the threads with 2 or 3 layers of teflon tape

I need a belt diagram for my lawn mower>

If you don't have the model number, I just found a diagram for mine by Google, by typing in "MTD 46 inch deck diagram" It took me to a Parts Tree site and right to the diagram I needed. There are slight model differences but for years, the 46 inch, three blade deck has been essentially the same.
