Question about Heating & Cooling

2 Answers

I have a White/Rogers thermostat and Concord 80+ furnace. They have worked just fine for several years now. All of a sudden, now the furnace is heating and heating, no cooling, regardless of the setting. In other words, it heats instead of cools and goes way beyond the set temperature. What can this mean and how to I fix it?

I am confused as to how the thermostat can already be bad; it is only a few years old. It was brand new in 2006. What else could be the problem?

Hi,the problem is possibly from the thermostat of your unit, the thermostat regulates the temperature provided by the unit, which means the excessive heating is as result of a bad thermostat, the solution to your problem is to replace the thermostat of your device, before it affects the pumping system of your compressor.

Thanks and take care

Hi, the thermostat is in charge of regulating the cooling system and once it's faulty, it will malfunction by making it too cold to control or hot as the case is now..

    Take care

Does the furnace stays off?.
Furnace are ment to cycle on and off because of limits .If you set to 70 furnace would cycle several times before reaching that temperature.
Just make sure your filters are clean and you got proper return air flow because lack of air flow will cause furnace to shut off sooner than normal

Im not sure what your application is but this stat is for a heat heat pump operation or forced air with A/C and heating. If you don't need the heat pump operation and you are using forced air furnace make sure all connections are good as labelled and connected to the proper terminals at both the furnace and thermostat If you installed new batteries and programmed the system without connecting to the sub-base and the numbers are still broken up you should replace it. I have attached a link for you to follow and you can see multiple types of White Rogers on the site home page

I have a thermostat 9600 Robertshaw and I have to use the trip switch to start my furnace. Then it reaches the temperature and sometimes it will kick in by itself but majority of the time I have to trip it. I have changed the batteries cleaned the thermostat, and reset it. Is it time for a new thermostat and can I replace it myself. Thanks
